Best = cost/availability/utility/ease of use. As stated, duct tape and leukotape both work great. I prefer to wrap about 1/2 meter of Duck or Nashua brand duct tape around a trekking pole. Gorilla is too thick. I carry a very small 10gram dropper bottle of isopropyl alcohol to clean the area of...
I am an engineer, not a psychoanalyst, so I just applied my general experiences over my last 12 varied Caminos, and I found the questions easily answered with just a bit of hesitation on 2 of them. Like Camino days, just take the questions as they come and try not to read anything else into them.
I was in Finisterre last week after walking the CF. Now I have to ask who is the moron who put up that fence? A dumpster would be more appropriate. Here is part of my email report from that day:
Traditionally, Peregrinos would burn their old stinky worn out clothes here. It pissed off the...
Last year I walked for a time witih a 42 year old criminal from Poland. Yes, he proudly told everyone he was a criminal. He spent 20 years in prison for burgleries. Once out, he was OK for a year or two, and then he started to revert to his old habits. Realizing there would be no good...
You can take the bus, and make the train. Be quick about it. Also you can check gate area prior to leaving for other pilgrims willing to share a ride, or at arrival area. I have done both successfully
Pretty Funny!!! You will be screwed in airport security, plus you still need a washing machine to use this. What a waste of time and money--most machines cost 4e. I do my laundry by hand every day on Camino, which takes about 10 minutes and costs nothing.
I have all of Fermor's books and you cannot go wrong with them. Iberia is suggested below, but the copy I have must weigh 3 kg. I would advise no books. Spend your time walking and conversing with the hundreds of other pilgrims you have the opportunity to meet. Personally, I am so busy...
Ahhh....that first Camino. Also nearly 8 years ago for me in Sept 2016. I was a naive 56 year old who had never hiked more than 10 miles in a day, so I trained extensively before going. After checking in at the Pilgrims office in St Jean, I got an auberge with 4 person room. Somehow that day...
Plan B is my 8 liter dry bag which contains my second change of clothes, sleeping bag and pillow is labeled with my name, address, phone and email. My Black Diamond trekking poles fit in there rolled up in the clothes for carry on. Never caught, but if so, I can pull the bag and check it rapidly.
Agreed. I also hate the convoluted payment requests I have gotten only a couple times in 12 caminos, so I just call the albergue and promise to arrive; please hold the bed. Has not failed.
I stayed there June 2021. Probably record cool temps for June and July during my walk. The albergue was standard older style with large dorm and bunks. No heat, no blankets per Covid protocol. I had no issue, but those with only silk liners were cold. I have been in much worse. I do not recall...
There are business supplying taxis also. Does absolutely not mean one should get a Compostela when utilizing powered transportation. Ebikes’ pedal assist loophole should not qualify either. They engage the motor with a touch of the pedals and no physical effort.
Yes. I have laminated copy of the first 2 pages of my passport and stapled it into my credential for last 2 CFs, del Norte and CI. Always accepted in albergues, hotels, pharmacies for prescription, clinic, SIM card store and train station. Saves lots of time instead of digging out the real...
Pack a lunch, Walk up to the lighthouse, take the long leisurely way back to town via the far cost. Secluded beaches and few people on the less trekked paths. But personally I would not spend more than 2 nights in Finisterre. You can bus to A’Coruna and Ferrol for a day or 2 each
