A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Saying: "Pilgrims uses to cross this town" or "Pilgrims walked on this route centuries ago" is often hypothetic. There are several points where we can guess medieval pilgrims were walking: - passes between mountains (eg, Somport or Roncesvalles) - hospitals where they were able to find food...

End September 2024 - first time Camino

Have you considered a rain cape (or a poncho) which protects both you and your backpack from rain ?

    Primitivo accommodation advice

Indeed, I just have learnt the nice donativo at Samblismo was now closed. It is a pity. Javier was a very nice hospitalero, and the atmosphere in the gite was kind.

    Pilgrimage or vacation?

I cannot understand the contradiction between "pilgrimage" and "holidays". According to me, these words are not at the same level: - pilgrimage is the target - holidays are the means I walked with people who were working during their Camino, and with others who were in holidays. Last summer I...

Best way to walk near unfenced cows/cattle

While meeting cows in Spain, I tell them "I am not a torero !" If in France, like below on Aubrac, I sing "L'amour est enfant de bohême...."

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

I belong to 2 pilgrim associations and I have asked them. The first one (SFASJC) just answered: "The price paid by a pilgrim for a credential is entirely for the SFASJC which designs and prints the credential. There is no fee due to Pilgrims Office in Santiago"

I cannot see this variant, neither on mapy.cz nor on Gronze.com. Furthermore, I do not remember having heard about it...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

I think this rather goes to the Credential issuer, not to the Pilgrim Office at Santiago.

    Overcrowded Camino Frances

Wild camping is not so discouraged in France, provided you are cautious (namely regarding fires), ask permission if you see someone, and if you do not leave your tent too long at the same place. Indeed, bivouac is tolerated even in Spain. What I call bivouac is putting your tent on at the end of...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Perhaps we have to think about (and if possible answer), several questions: A) Do I personally think there are too many pilgrims on the Camino ? "too many" for my comfort ? Because it becomes difficult to find accommodations ? "too many" for the inhabitants close to the Camino, for the Galician...

Gite de la Porte Saint Jacques

Oups ! You are right, I missed the "Ver más" button... However, Gronze does not tell nothing about dinner.

Gite de la Porte Saint Jacques

Gite de la porte Saint-Jacques does not appear in Gronze.com. Edit: it appears, I must change my glasses... It seems to be a nice hotel But if you have to be careful with your euros, you should choose accommodations according to their prices, for instance on the website I mention above.

    Itinerary opinion

My personal advice is that it is a mistake to pay a travel agent to organize a Camino. (That are my 2 cents, you can give them to the travel agent as a tip).

    Credencial for the San Salvador

You are right, but the question is about the credencial for San Salvador (it is a bit special, showing the steps of this Camino). Of course a standard credencial is allowed, but the one you get in convento is nice.

Group of prison inmates walking the Camino

Le Seuil french association allows a judge to give a choice to a young desperado, before he definitly fall in criminality: - either the jail - or walking on the Camino with a adult guide. It seems to work: about 95% of those who choose the Camino never go to jail. Kudos to their fellow pilgrims !
