Welcome to the forum!
The Primitivo is not the Frances, so the famed 'bed race' is not really much of an issue - at least, not yet. This can of course change markedly if you start on a long weekend/ public holiday. Weekends/ Monday are when most people start; starting just one or two days later...
No membership card required, and only pilgrims were present. No idea about the name. It's 4 bedrooms, each with 4 beds, and four bathrooms each with shower and toilet. The rooms are small and the walls are thin, but it's nice being in a smaller dorm.
Local's drop in for an hour or so in the...
Well that small youth hostel - Juvenil der Castro - is dodgy no longer! A young brother and sister team took it over in July last year, and they are absolutely fantastic. Very tasty communal meal and breakfast. (The coffee took a little while because he only had a little one cup machine and...
@Anhalter is right about the elevation. And, unlike many people's expectations, it's not all before the Hospitales!
Incidentally an extremely useful guide is the 'Village to Village' Camino Primitivo , which has elevation, stages, accommodation etc all listed. Should be available from Ivars...
Jessie, most do the Primitivo in 12 to 14 days, with 14 days bringing the stages in at under 25km per day on average. If you really want to slow it down you could take the whole 3 weeks and do extremely short days - see the recent thread from @Thomas1...
Please don't get me wrong it's pretty but not really what I call a waterfall.
I grew up near this one, used to visit often in the summer months. As a teenager, we would frequently swing past here on the way home from the beach to wash the salt off.

This type of waterfall is everywhere in...
@4848, welcome to the forum
The Primitivo is easily doable in 20 - 25km stages, although do remember that it's 320km long, which is an average of 22.5km per day assuming you walk every one of your 14 days. It's well worth considering making your first day or two slightly shorter (20 km) and...
@sun is shining , here's the contact details for Casa Beningo, hopefully they're still current. Phone: +34 982 375 028. mobile: +34 666 274 344. Email: casabenignofriol@gmail.com.
I didn't look to see if they are on WhatsApp, just used Google translate and sent an email (although the bloke...
@sun is shining, exactly as @Pafayac has posted, or take the Norte variant after Sobrado. As I posted above the only reasonably priced accommodation on the Variant Is at Twin Pines (booking.com). So for me it was Lugo, Friol, Sobrado, Twin Pines and Santiago, although I stopped at the dreaded...
Very true, as detailed in my thread I was actually attacked by a German shepherd on day two. It was a one-off incident however, and the Dutch pair that I mentioned above passed the same Farm less than an hour later and had no issue.
@sunflowers, I just had a thought. How are you going to complete the Hospitales if you can't carry your food and water requirements for one day? It's exactly the same situation.
Doesn't that then miss the section through the woods? That's the best part of the walk! Mind you, if all the OP wants to do is get to Sobrado it would work. Still a fair way without water....
It really depends on how much water you drink of course but it was July and I go through a moderate amount of water in a day. Had I thought about it I would have carried my water filter with me, that would have worked well on the first part of day one. It would easily have saved me carrying a...
Yes, both days I carried a full three litres of water and needed it, plus food for the day. Many have said it's 25 kilometers, myself and a Dutch mother and daughter both measured it at over 28 to Friol. Beautiful. I saw a total of four other pilgrims, not on the Camino itself but at dinner in...
The turnoff from the Primitivo is described here: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/combined-camino-norte-lebananiego-vadienese-olivado-salvador-primitivo.84059/post-1199271
@sunflowers, I walked the Verde on July last year, beautiful. I simply followed the excellent information provided by @Telelama , ( post 14) and the green arrows. Post in thread 'Camino Verde trail conditions?'...
That is indeed a shame because as I said I met people from eight to eighty , including a smattering of teenagers and quite a few in their 20s and early 30s. Clearly the time of year must have more influence than I would have expected.
Judging by others reports on the Primitivo over recent...
@Thomas1 , thank you so much for taking time to post. The information you have provided will undoubtedly make somebody else's pilgrimage easier - especially someone that wishes to walk shorter stages on the Primitivo.
Or, for that matter, has safety concerns with regards to the bunk beds. It...
