Good idea to walk short stages and savor the walk! If you take one taxi, I would make it Acebo to Molinaseca. Plenty of people walk it, but it’s sheer rock instead of dirt, and at least as challenging as SJPP to Roncesvalles in my experiences from 2021 and June 2023. I’m in my early 50’s, if...
Last night, I stayed at Casa Domingo, a farm house that is an albergue, at Pontecampaña just beyond Palas de Rei and San Xulian on the Camino Frances. A total delight and a tasty pilgrim dinner for the whole group, even us vegetarians!
I took a small Canon, point-and-shoot camera with me on the camino in 2021, and it worked great. It was small enough to tuck into my bum bag. It’s batteries last for many months and don’t need charging. I found it lighter than my phone, and I also didn’t have to worry about memory storage. The...
Anyone want to share a Bourricot shuttle from Biarritz airport to SJPP on May 22 at 16h30?
At the moment, I am the only passenger. It will cost less if shared. :)
I had better luck with the SIM card option, but make sure your phone is Unlocked for this to work. When I tried MetroPCS’s (powered by TMobile) international plan, it simply didn’t work, and I had to rely on a friend’s phone. Just my experience, though. :-)
A bit heavy, yes. I don't see a rating for this blanket, alas! I would say that it's like adding a quilted jacket? I'm walking June, so it should be good, but April might need something more. Here's a sleeping bag to consider: 757grams/1.7 lbs, ECO-Opro, waterproof ($30.00 on Amazon here). It...
It sounds like you already have a light sleeping bag if you decide to pack it, but for what it's worth, I'm taking this "layover blanket" from Gravel: Layover Blanket 12.4 oz, stuffs down into its own pocket to become a fleecy pillow, $129.00 (kinda pricey, but I love its features, like a wide...
Thanks for this. I’ll be walking is May-June too. Very sensible. I walked from Astorga in July with just a liner, but I wouldn’t do that again since I had to wear all my clothes more than once. Was fine, but not necessary. :-)
It seems to compile and synthesize info from various websites. Pretty impressive, though I'm glad that experienced humans can give better info -- for now, lol!
Not especially breathable, but very thin — kind of like very thin felt coated with wax? If it’s not significantly cheaper than something else, you might prefer something more durable.
I'm too short for typical backpacks by Gregory, Vaude, and other companies, sadly! (5'0", 150 lbs) I walk with almost this same pack: G4Free 35L backpack from Amazon, $40.00. 2.14lbs. My version has no belt as this one does and only weighs 14oz., but this is the same company. Because I pack so...
I own an Altus and REI ultralight rain jacket, but I will walk this June with the same jacket I wore on my first two-week Camino — an extra-extra large Frog Togg jacket that fits around me and my pack, as I am five feet tall and not too overweight (a bit, though). I paid $5.00. It’s not very...
The scenario: I've walked, had some breakfast, walked some more. I stop in a bar/café to use their restroom. To show appreciation, I want to buy something. What beverages would be useful to my body at this point? Or what's a packable/portable snack they typically sell? --My apologies if this is...
