I walked Porto to Santiago and then Finisterre in 2019 - what I really enjoyed was walking from one culture (and food) to another... I've walked the CF as well - they both have their attributes but when people ask which one... if cultural variety is important I would recommend the CP.
Dave congratulations on the book. I just ordered it and have the e-version as well. Looking forward to reading it and getting ready for a planned Podiensis walk in Spring of 2023. I am not sure if you remember me - but we met for coffee over at St. Vincent's about 4 years ago. Since then I...
Frida - I transferred through Amsterdam Schipol in late September, 2021 and had no issues - did not need to show my vaccination status nor a COVID test - I found trying to transfer in the USA cost prohibitive. Maybe there are more direct flights from a US city to Madrid or Barcelona than were...
I flew from Oregon to Spain in late September - same process as all others have outlined... upload your vaccination record via the Spanish Health app - very easy and I breezed right through once I landed in Madrid. I did take a COVID test out at PDX right before flying - not because I needed to...
Yes taken about a month ago! Has anyone seen the man riding his bike and singing around the ruins? He was there when I took this (I have a video of him) - it was a very magical moment.
For me (not speaking for John) but the coastal route felt more generally touristy with resorts etc. Churches and other more spiritual artifacts were not as close to the route... this is not a criticism, it was just different and once I went inland I felt more of a presence of the spirituality...
I think I am just ahead of you, I am in Hospital de Orbigo tonight and was in Leon yesterday. There was some kind of medieval festival going on which was interesting.
Arrived in Burgos today and anxious to begin my walk. Seeing a few pilgrims but not as many as I thought would be here. The weather is perfect, the tortillas cheesy and the caffe con leche delicious. Ultreia
I am starting next Monday so very happy to read such a thorough and informative post. Thank you! Going against all my instincts as an uber-organized person - I have made no reservations except for my first night in Burgos after a long travel day from the Pacific Northwest. I am really...
I am starting in Burgos on Sept. 30 (i might move that up a day) so depending on how long it takes you to get to Burgos from Pamplona - we might cross paths.
Katherina and others - thank you so much for the links, etc. I have visited the Schipol website and read all their updates but as you say Katherina it is very confusing. I am traveling from the US - so high risk. I will get tested before I leave and have that documentation ready just in case...
Anyone have any insight on connecting through Amsterdam/Schipol? I am vaccinated and ready with my forms and QR for Spain but it looks like I will need to have a negative COVID test result to transfer planes in Amsterdam. Thoughts?
I am starting from Burgos on Sept. 29 - so thank you all for the updates - very helpful. I haven't booked anything yet just because everything is still so fluid - but as I get closer I will probably book the first few nights and see how it goes. I hope to see some of you who are walking in...
Bob - so glad you made it safe and sound. And lovely to hear you are enjoying the walking and exploring Italy - Via Francigena is on my list so please keep us updated as time and journey allow. I am pleased to hear you have met other pilgrims on the route!
Take care - enjoy!
