It is no longer routinely used on Fridays. Only on the special occasions named on the cathedral website or if it is paid for privately. Tour groups often pay to have the Botafumeiro used during their visits. The message is that it will be available for use from 10 July. Not that it will be used...

"BOTAFUMEIRO WILL BE USED FROM 10 JULY 2024.
The Pilgrims' Office in Santiago is informing tour groups who make regular bookings that the Botafumeiro will return to regular use one 10 July 2024.
This follows a period of repair...
Just seen a post on Facebook which said that the botafumeiro was back in use today

Message posted recently on the APOC Facebook group. Sent to me by a friend in Santiago
"So I'm posting this on behalf of Tom Labuzienski who is currently volunteering at the Pilgrim's Office.
As you all know, the botafumeiro has been reinstalled in the cathedral and everyone is anxiously...
A friend watched the complete team of tiraboleiros giving it a full test swing late last night on the webcam when the cathedral was closed and more work had been done on it.
Today's noon pilgrim mass in the cathedral in Santiago has just started and the Botafumeiro is back in place after being out of use for several months for repair work. The view from one of the cathedral webcams.
After seeing a comment on Facebook just now I checked the cathedral webcams. The botafumeiro is hanging in place this morning as people arrive for the noon pilgrim mass.
It looks as if today's total is just a little short of the 3,000 mark: 2,938 Compostelas issued today. 9,281 in just three days in May. I think these are unprecedented numbers for the time of year. Not sure what conclusions can be drawn from that quite yet but it certainly has surprised me!
Good to hear that things are moving there. Going to be another busy day if there are close on a thousand just after noon! I've been looking at the webcam a little before the Monte do Gozo and it is still very busy on the Camino there despite the weather.
For a reasonable length of time perhaps. There was a short period before Covid when waiting times to receive a Compostela could easily be three or four hours on the busiest of days. The pilgrim office introduced a queue system rather like the tickets at a supermarket deli counter. Take a...
There will probably be upwards of 2,000 people arriving today and wanting to register on the website. You can disregard the browser security warnings and enter the site. Though not everyone will know that or be happy to do so. Haven't tried the registration form myself. Perhaps today will be...
Not the best time for it. Over 3,000 Compostelas yesterday and the same the day before. And now the pilgrim office want people to register via the website before visiting. Getting a big red security warning from your browser is probably not what a couple of thousand arriving pilgrims want to see...
When I go to the pilgrim office website at the moment I am receiving a warning about the website's security certificates. Same on both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers. And if I disregard that and enter the site the main screen no longer gives a count of today's arrivals. Just me or are...
