Putside of la Rioja I found lots of good wines in Navarre, Cacabelos and Ribera del Douro. My favourite by far was the wines of Villafranca del Bierzo made from the Mencia grape. The history of this region is interesting. Apparently a few hundred years ago French immigrants settled in the valley...
The obvious answer for me is the Cathedral cello which appears twice on each of my completed passports. It is a symbol of the result of the completed pilgrimage.
Cheers
Its a misconception that it is my Camino.
Its a misconception that the Camino provides.
It is a misconception that any one method of using poles, carrying equipment, wearing of clothing has a defined correct method.
It is a misconception that I am correct.😜
Hi Mark, Welcome
Some don’ts
Don’t put your backpack on the beds
Don’t take a lower bunk unless your age/health/abilities dictate or it is all that is left.
Don’t save beds for someone else
Don’t use a chair unless you have chosen an upper bunk.
Don’t bogart the shower😱
Don’t forget to have a...
You can do the Portuguese 3 times in 45 days from Porto. If you need to stretch the time start in Lisbon with a few days exploring and don’t forget Sintra. The walk up to Porto and sample the goods there. Both sides of the Douro river offer excellent wine and of course Port. Its 13-15 days to...
I have several solutions. Let me explain…
I have walked the entire CF 3 times. The first time I did the classic stages as per the guidebook by Milan Bravo Lozano. I attached myself to a “family” and for the most part stayed within that pod for the entire Camino. That was in 2008. I did not use...

In Navarra. The white asparagus with the delicious cream sauce.
My favourite meal was a sea bass with potatoes and veggies at Casa Ramon in Molinaseca.
Hi!
While grocery shopping in a large supermarket the other day I was reminded of the camino in a very subtle way. The aisles of the store were marked as one way due to social distancing requirements.
While I had no problems following the arrows most everyone else just ignored them. In fact I...
Maybe stating the obvious here but make sure you use atm’s only when the bank is open in case you have issues that can’t be resolved with the machine and it keeps your card as security.

I think collecting stamps is more of a lodging requirement than a tradtion or custom. It is part of the infrastructure of the albergue shelter system. Rules governing the collection for stamps originate in the church somewhere. It also helps prove that you have walked the last 100 k and didn’t...
On my first Camino in 2008 I went to my Parish Priest and asked for his blessing for my trip. He refused initially until I explained what it was I was about to undertake. He knew what a pilgrimage was but nothing specific to Santiago. It was quite awkward as my expectation was that it would be...
In 2017 I carried a small portion of my brothers ashes from Porto to Santiago. That was my 8th Camino. While living he always expressed an interest in my pilgrimages. He never quite managed to commit to it. Near the end he was not a healthy man so I carried him after he passed. That was more for...
