This is indeed the danger of blindly following guidebook «stages», some of which are way too long for novices / camino newbies or the untrained hiker ... it is the same with many guidebooks not just the Brierley one
John Brierley is a legend of the camino and has given so much to so many ... wonderful memories of meeting him when he visited Melbourne in 2019 ... I wish him peace in this greatest challenge of all that he faces 🙏🏽

Sadly, the MMD app is no longer available ... there were too many technical
issues maintaining and updating it to work on multiple platforms ... so it twas discontinued several years ago and has been «replaced» by en electronic version of their printed guidebooks ...
I use Relive and it is fine, especially the feature that builds little videos of your walk / ride / whatever … app is free to start but they will harrass you relentlessly to join up and pay the monthly subscription to be part of their «community» … don’t get me wrong, I like it and I use it from...
How about walking from StJPP to Le Puy-en-Velay on the GR65 Via Podiensis [in reverse] then on to Geneva via the GR65 extension [also known as the Via Genennensis] and from there to the Via Francigena ...
there’s a lot more pilgrim-hiker infrastructure on the Voie du Puy [accommodation et al]...

iPhiGéNie is awesome both on and off the trail ... have been using it since 2014 and like you, I would not walk in France without it ... most recently I have used it to record my tracks which has proved to be another helpful function 😂 especially fir future trip planning 👣👣👣
