Agree. I normally get 2 or 3 caminos out of my Meindl hiking shoes. My last 2 caminos were the Olvidado/San Salvador/Primitivo and Madrid/Part San salvadors and eastern section of Olvidado. My shoes still have at least 1 more camino in them!

LIVE from the Camino On the Camino de Madrid!

I am definitely a ‘completist’! On the day I arrived I walked to Iglesia Santiago y San Juan Bautista and a wait until 1800 for it to open. Turns out there is a Camino marker and map for the Camino in the square outside the church. After getting my credencial stamped at the church I had a short...

The longer you walk the easier it gets. I find the first week is for settling in and by the end of the second week is normally when I get the first day when everything feels fine and then it normally stays that way. I think the longest I did was about 6 weeks from Alicante and the last few weeks...

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

I mostly use a poncho but they can be a nuisance in strong winds so I always carry a rain jacket (and trousers as well). I get my ponchos from the sort of shops in spain that sell farming goods. They cast about 20 euros and seem to be favoured by the people who work on the land.

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

I always take a rain jacket, trousers and a poncho no matter when I am walking.

    Poles or No Poles?

You most definitely do not need them. However, you may want to use them. On all of my caminos I have always just carried a single pole (normally strapped to my back pack) for those tricky water crossings and to fend off the odd overly intrusive dog.
