    Carlos Nunez

I'm going to see him in concert tonight (3/14) in Bethesda, Maryland. I try to see him each and every time he is in the area. I'm very excited and just had to tell some people who know who he is and would understand my excitement. It is so cool to see him and then know that I'm on my way to...

I just purchased my round trip ticket to Paris for March 23rd. I should be in St. Jean Pied de Port on the evening of the 24th. I'm so excited.

    I couldn't stop myself

At Durham Parish, my lovely wife prepares and prints the service bulletin for the worship services. Usually it is a simple affair with more coordination, which she is very good at, than technical complication. The Christmas Eve service bulletin is another item all together. It is a booklet...

You know it's too heavy, but you pack it anyway

Since it is the off season (for most of us) and we are coming up with items for discussion, here is one to consider. Do you have an item that you know weighs too much, and that you shouldn’t put in your backpack, but you bring it anyway? I’ll go first. Six bars of Dove soap. Why? I only...

Who "owns" the albergue at Roncesvalles?

I'm doing a talk on the Camino in a week or so. I was trying to add a bit about Roncesvalles and I found out that I really don't know how to truly describe it. Who does it belong to? The Church? Is it still a monastery? Thanks for any help.

The long awaited day will arrive with the rising of the sun

That sounds overly poetic for what I'm trying to say: I LEAVE FOR MADRID TOMORROW!!!!!! My nephew and I will arrive on Tuesday, and Wednesday we will board a train and arrive in Sahagun around 1:00 PM local time. I am so excited. I probably won't be on line here very much because the site...

Shipping stuff back to the US

In June my nephew and I will be walking from Leon to Santiago. After that, we will then be touring around Europe for another couple of weeks. We will be bringing some items appropriate for the Camino and some other items more appropriate for backpacking around Europe. We will mail the items...

    Proper pronunciation of Sarria

What is the proper way to pronounce the name of the town Sarria? Is is "SAH-ree-ah", with the emphasis on the first syllable, or is it "sah-REE-ah", with the emphasis on the second syllable, or is it something altogether different? And is it proper to roll the "r's"?

Where to get a credential (pilgrim passport)

I am asking this question for a couple of friends. They have unexpectedly gotten the opportunity to walk some of the Camino Frances (something they have wanted to do for some time). They are leaving the US on the 21st of April to visit family in Ireland. On the 27th of April they will fly...

Roncesvalles, whether or not to stay

I will be beginning the Camino Frances on May the first. I will spend my first night in Orrison (I have a reservation). I had planned to stay in Roncesvalles on the next night. From my Brierley guide, I see that the distance from Orrison to Roncesvalles is about 17 K. My question is, would I...

    What auburgue's would you avoid?

I saw a similar topic on the Camino Frances forum. Thought I would ask the same question here. Thanks.

    Laundry Soap

What kind of laundry soap do people here use while on the Camino? I will be walking the Camino Portuguese in September. It will be my first time walking the Camino and my first time backpacking. In March I met a young backpacker in Athens who had walked the Camino. He was giving me some...
