Last night we stayed in Casa del Sol a Sol in Hornillos del Camino. The owner could not have been more accommodating and told us that the front door is open 24 hours a day. When we came down for breakfast this morning he told us that someone had stolen a charity tin from the dining/lounge area...
We walked the whole CF last year and Sarria to SDC was some of the most enjoyable walking. The Galician countryside is so beautiful. If you avoid the set stages you can still find some solitude, although Sarria to Portomarin was like doing the Camino on steroids!
Here is my accommodation list. We started last September and booked the first week and. After that we usually booked 2-3 days in advance, except Sarria to SdP which we booked about 1 week in advance.
I shaved my head before leaving home and took a couple of disposal razors with me. Shaved my beard about every 2-3 days and then went to a lovely barber in León who charged me €7 for a head shave. He was very attentive and a skilled barber. Tony Mellado, Pl. Jardin de San Francisco, 14, 24004...
We did it in 10 days, with no rest days but a couple of shorter days. Stayed at Orisson on the way over the Pyrenees. 62 years young and reasonably fit.
Download ones of the apps such as Wise Pilgrim or look on Gronze as they list all the different types of accommodation. We nearly always used private rooms so there are plenty of options. I can send you a list of accommodations between Sarria and Santiago.
I listened to, and enjoyed, your St Cuthbert's Way podcasts just after returning from the Camino Frances a few weeks ago. St Cuthbert's Way is not far from where I live so I might walk it in preparation for my next Camino.
As previous posts indicate, everyone is different and what works for one person might not work for another. However, there are common themes, and testing out socks and shoes beforehand is essential.
I recently completed the CF wearing two pairs of Bridgedale liner socks, Gewohl foot cream and...
It’s very much a personal choice. In the UK, if it’s damp/wet I normally wear Scarpa boots. However, in dry conditions I wear Altra Olympus 5 trail runners, which is what I’ve just worn to walk the CF, with no blisters or injuries. However, foot care and the right socks are really important...
Came home from Santiago last weekend. Most nights I’ve woken during the night feeling disoriented and thinking that I am still on the Camino. Also, lots of dreams about leaving my wallet in albergues and worrying about it being stolen. Very strange.
Just pay for priority, so you get a 10kg bag allowance, as well as a small bag. We carried our 44ltr and 36ltr Ospreys onboard without any problem. To be honest, Ryanair never seem too fussy about precise sizes.
We walked it today. Very dry but lots of sections of jagged rocks. Just took our time and used walking poles. Nothing worse than the Lake District or Croagh Patrick in Ireland.
It depends how fit you are and your timescale. We are doing the whole Camino and not on a strict date to finish so we broke up the journey and stayed at Orisson. The communal meal is a nice way to meet other pilgrims.
The walk up to Orisson is the steepest part of the whole stage but...
I am also UK based. Went down the Decathlon route and bought 2 different types of boxers, including their Merino wool ones, but neither any good. Ended up with 3 pairs of Saxx which are so comfortable due to their Ball Park feature (no further description necessary)...
I recently bought a pair of Olympus 5 which felt fantastic to wear. After trying LPs and Brooks Cascadias I had finally found my Camino shoes!
Disappointingly, after several hill and mountain walks in Ireland and England, probably no more than 40 miles in total, the tread in the centre of one...
