wow! you only took 3 weeks!! You finished the camino on the feast of Guardian Angels (and left on Our Lady´s birthday) you chose good dates! and you have almost reached your fundraising target! Your post is so encouraging-
Thanks for sharing! :D
Hi Kia, I am also doing the camino april/may 2012! And I live in London!!Did you go to any of the CSJ open days? I will most likely be going to the open day on sat 29 Oct. Thanks Pacharan
Tia Veleria, thank you sooo much for the sock info! I never would have thought 3 pairs would do the trick! and I appreciate the hyperlinks you added to your post- very thoughtful. Thanks :D
And yes, I think I will have to buy another pair of hiking boots- the ones I have are not actually mine...
Hi Hagit, welcome. I am also fairly new to the forums and I must admit I have not yet been on the camino- I'm planning to go in Spring 2012. Therefore I cannot base my advice on any experience. But I would suggest leaving the knife and little scissors behind and buying some when you get there...
Keith, so you did the camino Ingles a couple of weeks ago and the Frances earlier this year? That is pretty hardcore. Have you done any other routes? and which do you prefer?
piercing and draining??? :( i'm not sure I have the stomach to do that- I get very queasy about things like that! I heard that its good to rub vaseline on your feet before you put your socks on for the long walk ahead. But surely this adds to the moisture and heat in your feet!? What do you...
falcon, 45 mins!! they must have had some giant blisters! I hadn't even thought of the blisters I would get.. It should be fine though, 8 hours on my feet a day in cheap £5 shoes in london doesn't seem to cause blisters. but i guess walking over rocks and stones might.. oh no! I need to...
hahaha I just worry about everything! worst case scenario: being robbed of my makeup whilst sleeping  no, really on a serious note, I want to make sure I am properly prepared for the Camino and I am concerned that the weight of my bag might be too heavy for me to carry. I read somewhere...
Peregrinacheena, a whistle is such a good idea! I never thought of it and it doesn't take up much space! ideal.
Tia Valeria, yes, I want to travel really light. I like the bar of soap idea for clothes. I think I might chop my locks too before I set off to save on shampoo/shower gel...
oh no, i apply it sitting on my bed with a little hand mirror. takes about 5-10 mins. Or even whilst walking, or sitting outside. but my question is more about "do you find you don't need to use makeup because you are focusing on something more spiritual" rather than a question of practicality...
Ok, one more question (last one! I promise!)
This one is for the girls: Makeup..? I know it sounds shallow, but I am still deciding if its worth the tiny extra weight/space in my backpack.. or is it not really worth the time and effort in the morning?
My mum insists I take at least mascara to...
There are some very good etiquette rules on this thread! And I would like to add one more:
Take your mobile/cell phone with you when you go to the bathroom!!!
I was staying at a hostal in Tarifa one time and I am a very very deep sleeper (I slept the whole 11 hours on a flight from San...
wow a lot of info! Thank you all for your help, David & Victoria for the information about the Confraternity in London- I will be joining to get my pilgrim passport. And thank you all for the security advice!
Hi Karen!
I think I am already addicted!! I'm so glad someone else is doing the camino the same time as me! hopefully we'll bump into each other sometime in April!
And I will be having a snoop at catherine mccoys blog too now! I've been looking at the photos on other forums too and it looks so...
lol colonia is not even an insecticide its a cologne they use in spain like nenuco or something. i think it is best to take precautions though but not abuse the use of insect repellent, as someone mentioned earlier it can be very harmful to people too.
