I caught the bus back in September 2016. I can't tell you the bus company. But I am pretty sure it left around 9 from the bus station in Jaca. It is the same bus station I came in from Zaragoza and also left on a bus up to Somport in the afternoon. The bus went up to the new monastery, dropped...
I walked the end of September 2015 - Izco was open then. The hospitalero was in and out. It ended up completo with some people sleeping on mattresses on the dining room floor. There was alcohol available as well as tins of food to buy.
Check to see if the bus is running up to the monastery. I think when I caught it it left Jaca around 9 am (late September). It also came down later in the day. The walk down the track was pretty terrible.
I caught a bus to Jaca from Zaragosa in late September 2015. The bus left from the train ststion at 1100 and I bought my ticket at the station after arriving on a train from Madrid. My notes say it took about 2.5 hours to get to Jaca. I later caught the bus up to Somport leaving around 1445...
I flew into Madrid then caught the train to Zaragoza and a bus to Jaca. Late in the afternoon there was a bus to Somport from Jaca. Check to see if the bus up to Somport is running when you plan to be there.
Marianne,
I have a guide called Camino de Madrid a Santiago de Compostela - Cartografia e itinerario Madrid - Sahagun which I obtained from Associacion de Amigos de los Caminos de Santiago de Madrid. I live in Australia and the person (in Madrid) I was emailing with was very helpful. It has...
A bus leaves the bus station in Jaca at 0930 and goes up to the Monasterios. The cost is 15€ which includes entry to both the old and new monasterios. It is possible to get out at the old monasterio on the way up or go all the way up to new monasterio. The bus travels between the two monasterios...
I was at Canfranc Estación on 25th September. There was a celebration that night where there were a few speeches then lights and images were played all over the station. The moon came up over the mountains behind the station near the end of the light show. Magic.
I'm on the Frances now after having come off the Aragones a bit over a week ago. The Aragones was wonderful. I walked some parts by myself but there were at 9-10 each night in the albergues.
Bernice,
If the Frances is too much you can always bus it - when I walked in October 2013 the Frances wasn't too bad and the walk out to Fisterra was almost empty (but very wet).
For the Aragones I have the Confraternity of Saint James pilgrim guide (www.csj.org.uk) for Arles to Puente la...
Plan to start on the 26th September. After meeting with the Frances in Obanos will walk to Ponferrada and plan to switch to Invierno. Walked from SJPdP to Fisterra in 2013.
I haven't seen this mentioned but on the following page http://caminodeinvierno.es/etapas-itinerario-alojamiento-predicci%C3%B3n-meteorol%C3%B3gica/etapa-7-chantada-rodeiro/ mention is made of a variation near Panasillas (Google translation):
