Up to you! For me I always hike with them, because if you use them right they set up your whole body for strong, efficient action and have relatively little to do with balance and all those things. But you have to use them right to get the benefit. I have seen some pretty comical things on...
Entirely possible! I am going on 81 and have plans for another Camino. Began all this Camino walking at age 76 and have managed the Francés and the Primitivo carrying my backpack. Your father should do go preparation carrying the weight he would carry, wearing good shoes (HOKA!) He will know how...
Well, if you get chastised then so should I!! I so totally agree with you! I see this stuff that you mention above and want to give up looking at the forum. But haven’t. Come on people and get a life and get on with it!
I think a first night in Beilari is the best way imaginable to start a camino. I will never ever forget it! It does get booked up real quickly, so reservations are best
Forgot the sock questrong and how important that is! Double socks, Merino outer and silk toe socks inner and using liberally a foot lubrication AND taping immediately if you begin feeling trouble in any way . Sometimes I also taped prophylactically In order to avoid anything knowing my danger...
Thanks for posting this, Rebekah. Richard Rohr is part of my morning read moment. I love what he says about "pilgrimage is praying with your body, and it’s praying with your feet. It’s an exterior prayer, and the exterior prayer keeps calling you into the interior prayer." I am not catholic but...
My impression of the Primitivo was that one was basically always making major climbs or descending and whenever one was one finished the other was beginning. I did love it. But it is pretty much constantly mountainous in a way the Frances is not. Memorable in an entirely different way from the...
I highly recommend Beilari. An amazing experience to begin the Camino and more than one day is definitely possible. They start taking reservations sometime after the holidays for the coming season.
Really, really resounds with me. That is so much my experience, too, in walking the two caminos I have walked. First one at 74 then76 and am determined again to walk after my 80th in a few months. thanks for posting.
I am a long time volunteer at Beilari and know that Joseph there does not begin making reservations for the new season usually in January. so you are fine! Don’t miss the Beilari experience. It is truly unique. there is also a facebook page!
i personally would always reserve in Saint Jean and Roncesvalles. Reserving gives you the opportunity to experience the albergue Beilari in Saint jean. Highly recommended.
