Telephones on the Le Puy Camino

Hi, I've just finished the le Puy route. I bought a €34 Samsung phone in Lyon and had to go to the train station to buy orange credit. I had coverage everyday. The only problem was getting more credit. None of my 3 Australian credit cards were accepted. At one point a kind French walker used his...

Backpacks… Do I try overhead or as checked luggage?

I use a pack liner on the outside for travel ( protect the straps etc) it weighs 100 g and once there, I put it inside and that becomes my liner offering protection from the wet. Sea to summit is the brand I have ( there are others). It is a size bigger than I would probably require if I was...

Please tolerate me revisiting the topic on Camino Guides...

On my Camino Frances I photocopied ( 2 to a page and 2 sided) brierley map book. I then threw out the pages as I went. There was no danger of getting lost without a map, however it was useful to plan each night. All the Germans seem to have the Michelin guide, which looked really good, but I was...

Toque, Gloves, Long Underwear & Backpack on Airplane

Toque, Gloves, Long Underwear & Backpack on Airplane Why don't you keep the backpack in the cabin with you and send the poles in the hold? ( wrap in bubble wrap or a post tube that can be binned at the airport when you pick them up). That way if the poles are lost they can be replaced .

now there's a raincoat for the backpack

I have just purchased the Z-PAC poncho. It doubles as a ground sheet for a tent and weighs in at 150 gm. It's made of Cuban fiber, and is reported to be totally waterproof. The side zips look like it will stay on pretty well in the rain and wind. http://www.zpacks.com/accessories/groun ...

    Weather in August/September

I walked the Frances in mid sept 2010. By Leon we had to buy gloves and a beanie for the morning starts. Most days were warm and evenings ok in just long sleeves . We only had 3 days of rain. I appreciate its different every year but we found the weather ideal for walking.

Try the baby section in the supermarket for Milton tabs. They are used for sterilising baby's bottles.

Walking Poles - Bring them they are essential

Has anyone gone from using 2 poles to just one? Does that work? I like the rhythm you get walking with 2, but do find I can't do a thing without putting them both down. Not sure if one would help this issue.
