Tom,
Why not join the GR65 at Air-sur-l'Adour and walk straight through to Pamplona? The week walking through the foothills on the GR65 would get you into fine fettle for the climb over the Pyrenees. The countryside is beautiful, in fact everything is beautiful there.
I recommend the Miami...
@rainswift a quick scan at Pontecesures in Apple Maps indicates that there is an Eroski supermercado, several cafes and at least one other food emporium within a couple of hundred metres of the centre.
I know what you mean about the research and planning process. It seems to me that what you...
I have just read all of this thread and my brain hurts. Obviously I can only speak for me, I am going to wait and watch. I worked in IT for 40 years and I have a healthy scepticism regarding any dates published by government agencies.
Merry Christmas to you all
I think the issue is that cobblestones/setts can become quite slippery when wet which poses a challenge.
You are of course quite right, walking on them for any length of time kills your feet. I have been wearing Meindl trail shoes for 8 or 9 years and they help, but only a bit.
Hi @dbier, I agree with pretty much all of the foregoing. I used the Buen Camino app last year for the 2nd half of the Norte from Ribadesella and found it to provide all the information that I really needed, including tracking my progress in real time against the camino route shown against a...
So sorry for your loss!
We had to bail from the Norte on day 1 of the 2nd half (Ribadesella) in 3019 when my mother died unexpectedly. Thanks to COVID it was 2022 when we were able to resume, but the Camino was there for us, as it will be for you when you able/ready.
May your father rest in...
Caroline and I walked from Irun to Ribadesella in 2018 and your description brought back so many great memories. That first day to San Sebastian can be pretty challenging.
Buen Camino
I should add that we walked from Oviedo in 2017. It is still more or less my favourite. Just watch the profile for each day. Some days feature a lot of descent and ascent
I believe someone mentioned cost savings in organising everything yourself. I did a comparison about 10 years ago when my wife and I were walking the Le Puy route in stages to Santiago.
I calculated that it would cost 3 times more to use a company providing the managed service. I carry my own...
It’s cooler too. We have always found it easier to get started in the cool if the day starting at sunrise. Gives time for a beer in the shade at the end :)
Hi Jeanne,
Have you checked and confirmed that the Albergue has reopened? If so, what time does it open to pilgrims in the afternoon?
Aim to be there by the time it opens and you should be fine, earlier is better.
Caroline and I started from Irun in 2018 around that date. We probably started...
Just to prove that there are more options than you can shake a stick at, Caroline and I decided, having read Nicholas Luard's book The Field of the Star, to start in Le Puy and walk in stages to Santiago. WE did that and started in 2010 and over 5 years walked to Santiago and then Finisterre...
