    Leaving Canterbury May 2

Hi Spelt: Unfortunately we won't meet this year - my original post related to May 2, 2016, which is when I started from Canterbury! I made it to Rome on July 13 - total 73 days. I wish you all the best with your journey - which was an unforgettable experience for me and which I hope you enjoy...

    Leaving Canterbury May 2

Hi Mangled99: Thanks - I will certainly try. Flying in from the US to arrive on May 1 and setting off for Dover on May 2 - so hoping the stamp source in Canterbury Cathedral opens early on a Monday morning!! Staying in the Cathedral Gate hotel - so must be close to you. Also planning to walk...

    Leaving Canterbury May 2

Hi Mary: I doubt I'll overtake you - planning to average between 25 and 30km per day, with the occasional 35+ marathon. I am probably also going to increase the number of rest days in my current itinerary. It looks like I now have a traveling companion - but a neophyte with no experience of...

    Leaving Canterbury May 2

Hi Bradypus: Greetings from a Carmarthenshire Welshman in exile in the US!! Many thanks for the response to my post. It looks like you followed roughly the same route as Brian Mooney (whose accommodation style is my model). I may well decide to do the same - it obviously is more direct than...

    Leaving Canterbury May 2

Anyone else waking the Via Francigena in May? I am leaving Canterbury on May 2 - hoping to reach Rome third week of July? Would love to hear from any other Francigenans.

    Camino Portugues

I walked in June last year - watch out for the heat, particularly in the early stages between Lisbon and Porto, some of which are quite long. Brierley guide is great, but significantly understates some stage distances. 100% endorse the other recommendations of Santarem Hostel. Have a great Camino.

    Starting Porto 1/2nd Sept

Would recommend taking the "traditional" coastal route out of Porto up to Vila do Conde and then branching inland. However, after Ponte de Lima (one of the nicest towns on the CP) suggest turning back to the coast and taking the ferry from Caminha to Guarda. The next two days walking up the...

Business Class / Coach Class: Flight Question

I have treated myself to business class from JFK to Madrid on Delta for my past couple of Caminos - and also back from Barcelona. Its a great service - prices, seats (flat bed and spacious "pod") and in flight food all way better than British Airways (and I'm British!)

    Lisbon to Santiago

Hi Siom: - again, apologies for the delay in response. The route is well marked where it is (infrequently) necessary, but in general you just follow the coastal path all the way from A Guarda to Baiona. Baiona to Vigo and on to Cesantes has more urban stretches and the markers are plentiful...

    Lisbon to Santiago

Sorry for the delay in response. Two particular recommendations are: Casa de Capela in Pecene - Coussourado. Restored farmhouse with 7 en suite rooms, all with modern bathrooms and incorporated into the attached chapel. Swimming pool and nice lounge / outdoor patio for relaxation. The...

    Lisbon to Santiago

Hi Abuela: I walked from Lisbon to SdC in June of this year, having done the Frances in 2014. As a self-confessed "luxury pilgrim" I stayed almost all nights in private rooms - and found them to be slightly more expensive than their equivalents on the Frances. Usually around 45 to 50 euros...

    Camino Mozarabe desde Almeria

Hi Kevin: Just wanted to say thanks for your great guide to the Camino Mozarabe section Almeria to Granada. Also - (and please forgive the stretch), but noticing you are located in Norway, would you be the same Kevin O'Brien that worked for Statoil and with whom I played golf in Singapore back...

Anyone interested in walking from Almería? May 2016

Hi Laurie: Thanks to your posting it, I have now also looked at Kevin's guide from Almeria to Granada. I am formulating a trip involving the Camino Mozarabe, Via de la Plata and Camino Sanabres in 2016 - but am hoping to coordinate the start to celebrate at least part of Semana Santa in...

    Semana Santa in Seville

I am also looking at a March 2016 VDP departure to coordinate with Semana Santa. From all I have investigated, apart from restaurants and hotels in Seville during the whole week a lot of things are closed, particularly on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Also, on booking.com a number of hotels...
