Type 2 Diabetic on the Camino

Hi Monica, I was Type 2 on the first Camino, and I had no problems. The first stretch over the Pyrenees is my "happy place," so personally I'll always take that route—even with the ups and downs. Living in a mountain state makes it much more attractive to us— but the next time I believe we'll...

What would you change about the CF - if you could?

Pilgrim office at beginning and end. Pay with your passport or with the credential. Of course it's not foolproof and easily avoided, but the point is I'd bet more would give than wouldn't. Thoughts?

What would you change about the CF - if you could?

I would establish a user fee of $20 per pilgrim to establish a way to cover the costs (especially in rural areas) for the clean up of the trash some pilgrims leave along the way. These small towns and villages shouldn't bear the brunt of pilgrim abuse, and it would create an income stream in...

Camino art from Santiago (a longshot)

If it's a print I'd like to purchase one.

Camino art from Santiago (a longshot)

I'm trying to find a piece of art that showed up on a wall behind Leigh Brennan on the Camino Cafe podcast with John Brierly early last year. It's of the two ladies in the park. Leigh told me this was recorded in A Trastenda De Xabi in Santiago. Is anyone at all familiar with the art, the...

    First day SJPdP to Orisson

We walked the unnecessary hill for the incredible beauty of it.

WARNING if you're leaving Sarria tomorrow (4th October 2023) ⚠️.

We ran through a similar sized group in June. It was a riot, and just a minor inconvenience. I'd rather see kids on the Way than anywhere else.

    Look behind you!!

The nice Galilean had four friends along with him. Lesson? Walk with a buddy who can keep you on track, perhaps?

    Madrid to Pamplona by train

Sure thing. We took the Metro to the Atocha Station then onto the Pamplona train. It depends on luggage and Customs, really. Good luck!

Un-retouched photo from this morning between Palas de Rei and Melide. (We got in the way of a high school tour of about 150 kids). LoL. It's not the rule, it's the exception, and you can find your solitude out there.

Reflecting on the Tragic Demise of a Spanish Gentleman

Just short of Ages yesterday after a great walk we came upon an unfortunate scene, where an older Spanish gentleman had taken his own life shortly before by hanging. It was incredibly upsetting and my wife and I and others alerted other walkers as to the situation so they could steel themselves...

    Plans Cancelled!!!

Hi Doc, We had the same fears just before starting from St Jean on April 20th. Just walked into Najera this afternoon. Nothing but bliss. Don't trust everything you read, and don't let yourself be scared off. We saw less than 30 pilgrims in 20km. It ain't bad out here.

LOL. I was going to forward this to you. Then I saw you wrote it. SMH. Straight talk, Chad. Thanks.

Tips for Tackling O Cebreiro Hill During Your Camino Walk

Thanks for this topic and please don't think of this as the ramblings of a "Camino-snob." If you are a flatlander, these are hills. If you are from anyplace in the world with mountains, these are just a series of very brief, very easy, very manageable, mini-day hikes. Our first camino (in our...

Is the Albergue in Roncesvalles a “must”?

Hi there! It was priceless for us ... in fact, on our second trip, we're going top spend more time there (on purpose, not just because we're older). For us, now it's a "never miss."

    April 2023 Camino Frances

Good luck, Meg. My wife and I are ministers, and we're flying out of the US on April 11th (right after Easter). Maybe we'll catch you! Buen Camino!

    Overweight on the Frances?

Hi and Welcome, You can definitely do this. On our Camino (2014) I was at 5'10" / 240lbs. In Santiago, I was at 208lbs. After a week "layoff," as I arrived home, I was at 218lbs. BTW, I was 56 years old. I am from one of the mountain regions in the US and nothing (NOTHING) we encountered on...

People walking 35 - 40 KM per day

Here's our take: after we arrived back in the States after our first Camino, we were filled with overwhelming sense of regret ... why in the world didn't we take MORE time? We had it to take ... we actually had more time that we could have taken—and didn't. Not this time. We've decided to do no...
