Asking your experience in reserving renfe tickets with Rail Ninja app

I book with Renfe every year for various trips around Spain. Some from Madrid to various stages on caminos and also for holidays, depending on where we fly into. Renfe only populate their site anywhere between 30 to 60 days in advance. It is a matter of looking on their website on a regular...

    Transport to Triacastela

Hi, I had to start there some time back and took a Train from Madrid Chamartín to Sarria and taxi to Triacastella. If memory serves me correctly it was train around lunchtime and I had time to transfer from the airport.

Instead of Sarria to Santiago-any other100-150 km on the Frances

If you are worried about tough climbs another section you could consider is Burgos to Sahagun. It falls within the 100 to 150 Km range and , apart from a bit of a hill just out of Castrojeriz, is a reasonable walk. Again both these locations are reachable by direct trains from Madrid. If you...

Instead of Sarria to Santiago-any other100-150 km on the Frances

My introduction to the Camino was Pamplona to Logrono. 8 years later I am still walking various bits of different Caminos. Last year I repeated that section. Pamplona is accessible from Madrid on Renfe trains with a change in Zaragoza and there are trains direct to Madrid from Logrono. It is...

Hi, Just saw this post. Given that you have teenagers I presume you are tied to the Irish school holidays. I have found that May and September are the best times for a weeks walk on the Camino, so maybe end of Aug and first week of Sept. The Finestere Camino is approx. 75 Km and can be done...

Advice please - Norte or CF or??

Hi Austin, Having walked both Frances routes to Roncevalles I prefered the Napoleon route. The views are amazing. It is well worth stopping in Refuge Orrison as an introduction to the 'spirit of the Camino' . At the evening meal every one gets the option to introduce themselves and, if they...

Seeing a lot of pilgrims starting in Roncesvalles...issues with SJPDP now?

Many people will have made flight bookings in advance to keep the cost down . Most lightly looking at restrictions in place at the time of booking. Crossing borders is a major consideration. I would consider this to be one of the major factors in the increase in numbers starting in Roncevalles...

On the Camino: One Day at a Time, one Photo at a Time 4.0.

Interesting view of Burgos Cathedral taken during Festival of San Pedro and San Pablo end of June. I was hoping to meet up with some others and asked a bar person what time they closed as friends were late. After some deliberation the answer was 4am or 5am. the Spanish love their fiestas ...

Remember staying there one night when a school tour were also there. The girls ran riot up and down the corridor. One of the hotel staff had to stay up there to keep the things quiet. They had walked from Sarria and this was their last night. Interesting nights sleep to say the least.!!

Interesting wall in Legrono. For those who have walked here note the cello of Felicia on his arm. Many will remember her and her daughter with their stand outside the house just before Legrono and their kindness to those passing. Sadly her daughter, who took over after her mothers death has now...

On the Camino: One Day at a Time, one Photo at a Time 4.0.

Interesting bit of information I learned on the Camino. Ever wondered why, every few rows of vines, one may see a solitary rose bush. Not for the staff to bring a rose home to their other half !!! It is the vineyards early warning system for the presence of greenfly (aphids). They are attracted...

    St. Jean to Burgos

For me this was the most interesting bit of the Camino. From the community meal and the first morning seeing the amazing view from Orison to the changing views along this stretch. The fellow peregrinos along the way. The pintxos in Pamplona and Legrono and the beautiful churches in even the...
