    Starting On August 7th 2015

Hi, Tony and Jeanette, My husband and I are flying into Madrid on August 10, going to Pamplona to stay at a hostel, and then are being transported to SJPdP for the start of our Camino. We'll actually begin walking on August 12 from SJPdP. We wanted to have a day there to enjoy the area and...

Camino Success Despite Being Overweight and Over 55

Hi, Mooncat. Your comment about "running out of clean underwear" caught my eye, which of course relates to "smelling bad" as well! :-) My husband and I are starting the Camino on August 11 from SJPdP and plan to take two--maybe three--pairs of quick-drying underwear and wash a pair every...

3 Months to go and the packing is done

Waka, I too am extremely impressed with your pack and it's weight! My husband and I are walking the Camino Frances in three months also--perhaps we'll see one another. At any rate, we haven't started putting things together yet, but your list will be helpful for us. The only thing I didn't...

    Washing your clothes

I haven't tried it yet, but here's a link to the actual website where they give a step-by-step explanation about how it's used plus a video demonstration. And you're right, "only" is definitely a relative term! Having done quite a bit cycle touring in the past, I know wash basins aren't always...

    Washing your clothes

I saw a suggestion back a few months ago from someone in this forum regarding the "Scrubba" wash bag. I ordered one from Amazon.com (I've pasted the link below) and it arrived in a very timely manner. It's pricey, but doesn't weigh much (I don't have the exact weight), but I'm planning to...

LIVE from the Camino Day 2 Zubiri

Hi, Millie. My husband and I are also starting the Camino in mid-August and going from SJPDP to Santiago...and perhaps on to Muxia and Finistere. Perhaps we'll meet along the way! :-)

    Overnight in SJPP?

Hi, Andrea. Coming from CA, you'll have a longer trip to Spain that we will, though! We have a direct flight from Atlanta to Madrid, but I imagine we'll still be jet lagged. :-) We also opted to stay over in St. Jean and Orrison as a way of getting ourselves acclimated and fully getting over...

    Overnight in SJPP?

We'll definitely say hello to them for you! I'm looking forward to meeting them. Istvan has been SO helpful in getting arrangements made for pickup, overnight accommodations, and transport to SJPP. I know having things set for a "relaxed" start-- is that even possible with all the excitement...

Branching out from the Brierley guidebook

I also bought this guide and am glad to see you found it helpful. My husband and I will be taking it with us on our Camino in August-October this year. I also bought S. Yates' book "Pilgrim Tips & Packing List" and it has some terrific pointers to help the new pilgrims (like my husband and...

    Overnight in SJPP?

    Thanks!

    Class of 2015

My husband and I are also traveling from the US to Madrid and walking the Camino in August-September as a retirement "vision quest" for me, so to speak. My official retirement date is June 30, and I have been having retirement anxiety dreams for months, even though I will continue teaching for...

    Overnight in SJPP?

Thanks for the advice! I have made a reservation in SJPDP, have ordered our credencials from Ivar, and have sent an email to the alburgue in Orisson, which was the only way I saw to make a reservation. Is that the best way to reserve space? What suggestions do you have if they're filled...

    Overnight in SJPP?

Thanks for the info...and it would be great to get together before we leave for GA. Perhaps once all this snow is gone--sometime in March or May or June (we're out of the area the month of April).

    Overnight in SJPP?

Yes, this was extremely helpful. Thanks!

    Thanks! This is very helpful.

    Overnight in SJPP?

Hi, Everyone. My husband and I will be arriving in Madrid on August 10 and will then take the train to Pamplona that same day. We have made arrangements to be picked up in Pamplona, and are staying overnight at the Curazon Puro (as recomended on this site--thanks!) and then being driven on...

    Class of 2015

I agree that "...getting old seems very over rated" but the alternative isn't so hot either. Think about that. ;-) Perhaps we should coin a new term for those of us who were and still are "active." Middle aged doesn't really work for me because that would mean I expect to live to be 140. I...

Internet Availablity on the Camino Frances?

No, I don't have to log on at specific times. I just need to check the classes briefly each day but it doesn't matter what time. So hopefully I won't get to much Murphy's law coming into play. :-) <----I'm an optimist!

Internet Availablity on the Camino Frances?

Yup. That's been my experience in varied situations. Things work great until you REALLY need them! Murphy's Law...or something like that, right?

    Class of 2015

Hhhmmm......no. Not over 100--although there are some days when I feel that way! :-) I'm 70 and will celebrate my 71st while walking; my husband is a mere 60, but I think he qualifies as an old fogie as well.
