    If You Had Two Weeks?

I would agree - I have walked the Primitivo in july but it is very high in places and would be difficult in winter, this route sounds perfect for the time of year

who knew it would cost so much!

unfortunately you are looking to travel during peak season (school holidays) the rational of weather has no bearing on flight costs as they are purely based on the yeild of the route and school holidays are always peak time (regardless of if you are traveling to a winter destination) I am a...

    Pilgrims Passport and Albergues (Lugo->Santiago)

they still consider starting in Lugo 100km https://www.lavozdegalicia.es/noticia/lugo/lugo/2017/08/04/oficina-peregrino-seguira-dando-compostelas-salidas-lugo/0003_201708L4C1992.htm

Riverside Walk Out Of Lugo Re-routed?

I would love to hear the outcome of this as having walked the Primitivo a few years ago I want to take my 11 year old a shorter distance and was thinking of starting in Lugo and doing the Friol route but don't want to do if there are problems, quite a few people were talking about this route...

you do get a compostela when starting in lugo https://www.lavozdegalicia.es/noticia/lugo/lugo/2017/08/04/oficina-peregrino-seguira-dando-compostelas-salidas-lugo/0003_201708L4C1992.htm but not everybody does it for that reason

Solo woman on Primitivo in August

I did the whole Primitivo from Oviedo to Santiago in July 15 and it was amazing, you should have no hesitation in doing it alone, I met nothing but friendly people and saw the most wonderful scenery, I was so glad I chose this camino as I knew the Frances was going to be too busy in July and...

    Why were we not informed??

This isn't a new thing - they offer this all the time but you need to book a loooong way in advance to get it I managed to get it at the parador in Santiago - (still not cheap but a lot cheaper than the normal rate) but I booked about 6 months in advance. The pilgrims meals are always available

From Asturias Airport (OVD) to Oviedo

I got the bus from there to Oviedo when I did the Primitivo in 2015, it is really quick between getting off the flight and getting your luggage and the bus stop is right outside (the airport is small) but I think 10 minutes is impossible really (even for the airport to get to the gate and open...

Coming from Australia, only 2 weeks to walk

I was in almost the exact same situation as you which is why I opted for the Camino Primitivo and I am so glad I did, so much less crowded than the Frances (especially in summer) and spectacular scenery and easuily doable in 16-18 days - you will love it

WHY would you do a winter camino?

Using this argument Robert you could just walk the Primitivo in summer instead of the Frances

Crazy? No sleeping bag for late Sept/early Oct?

I did the Primitivo last year and not a single auberge didn't have blankets - the one in the centre of Tineo was amazing with Dooves and sheets (this town is definately where it's worth not staying in the municipal auberge, even the most basic auberge in Borres had good blankets so personally I...

    Will they hate me?

I'm not a particularly early riser but I did find the noise produced by the early crowd (4-6am departures) quite inconsiderate at ti,es so it's nice that you think about this before you start, I'm sure with a good attitude like yours you will have a great Camino, the one thing I found the most...

Growth in pilgrim numbers on the Primitivo

Ramble-on you have the right idea and you will have a great Camino - I walked the Primitivo in July last year (2015) and found it a breeze - I never had a problem getting a bed but I took my time and wasn't in a rush - in some places like San Juan de Villapenada, Salas & Borres there were only...

Albergue Juvenil de Castro closing for a month

I think I did as it was very full and the mother & son I was walking with didn't get in and stayed in the hotel - I think I read that they often have youth groups so thought I'd better check

    Primitivo - May or July?

Hi Mark, if you do I walked from Preguntono (just after Arzua)to this casa rural (about 10km) http://apenadeaugasantas.com - I did ring them to prebook and they gave me a pilgrims rate I think about €50 but lovely place and great home cooking - I think I did see some signs for a few other...

    Primitivo - May or July?

I walked the primitivo in July last year and it was fine but I agree the shock of the crowds in melilde was actually too much and I left the trail at preguntono and walked my own path south 10km, found a casa rural and then to Santiago from there (It was wonderful) I ended up coming in through...

Albergue in the fancy hotel in Tineo

Well this post has really gone off track but I just wanted t say that I did stay in the Palacio in Tineo and it was great - amazingly comfortable beds and barely even half full in the middle of July - they gave me a twin room all to myself with my own shower and I certainly didn't moan about...

2016 -- Year of the Primitivo

I find this amazing - I walked the primitivo in July and never had a problem finding a bed, in Borres there were only 5 of us - I think the issue is people trying to walk it too fast, I took 16 days but a lot of people took 11/12 so their Etapas are going to lead to room shortages , give...

My stages on the Camino Primitivo

I am really surprised by Nandy61's comments, I walked the primitive alone in July (my first Camino) and loved it, although it was challenging it wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated and I had not trained at all but I think the difference was I wasn't rushing to finish it in 10-12 days as...
