The Way: how do you feel about THE movie?

We first learned of the Camino from reading Pillars of the Earth, and decided to walk it. We eventually saw The Way and liked it, but it wasn't our driving motivation.

    Critters and EpiPens

I wanted to have an Epi-pen in my kit, so I searched for low cost generic versions. I know nothing about this area (I'm not allergic but wanted to have one if someone needed it), so I'm concerned if these have a reduced dose, or a less effective medication...

How do you manage to overcome your language learning laziness?

Many good suggestions here. Two that I didn't see: In addition to Pimsleur lessons, we like Michel Thomas: https://www.michelthomas.com/learn-spanish/ Also, we find a frequency dictionary handy, as it tells you what words are most often used...

    poems for seekers

I don't have any suggestion for the Camino, but for exercise in preparation around home you could ride a recumbent trike: https://www.icetrikes.co/products/adventure We have used them for many years.

Planning a 10-Day Walk on the French Way: Sights, Towns, and Food for Four Senior Ladies

Thanks for reminding me - I'd forgotten about it. They will want to skip that climb.

Planning a 10-Day Walk on the French Way: Sights, Towns, and Food for Four Senior Ladies

This group is interested in walking, rather than a pilgrimage. They have picked the French Way as their route, and asked me to help them with their planning. They will not be staying in albergues, and while interested in meeting others, they are not especially focused on meeting Pilgrims. I...

Planning a 10-Day Walk on the French Way: Sights, Towns, and Food for Four Senior Ladies

OK. Another adjustment: Use taxis / buses as needed to focus on particular parts of the Camino. Which sections would you recommend?

Planning a 10-Day Walk on the French Way: Sights, Towns, and Food for Four Senior Ladies

Thanks @BombayBill. I agree with your assessment. My thought would be: When the destination is more than 5 miles away, take a taxi to a point 5 miles from the destination, then walk from there. This should open up the possibilities a bit.

Planning a 10-Day Walk on the French Way: Sights, Towns, and Food for Four Senior Ladies

A search brought up a few threads, but I decided to post a question to see if I could get some more opinions. Four senior ladies are hoping to walk the French Way in September. They will be limited to about 8 km (5 miles) per day for 10 days, and a no-rush vibe. No Compostela necessary. Their...

My turn for a LIVE thread - starting from Lisbon

So sorry to hear this. Did your recent illness contribute to your fall?

    Disposable Wipes

I don't see education as the solution because in my experience ignorance isn't the problem. No one I have ever talked to about Camino trash has ever said "Oh, I didn't know that! Thanks for telling me to carry it out." Instead I hear "Uhh, no way am I going to carry that around with me."

    Inspirational Camino 'graffiti'?

Actually, I did see that but I thought your distaste only applied to multi-coloured tags along railways at the entrance of big cities. Sorry for generalizing.

    Inspirational Camino 'graffiti'?

I can't tell, but it seems your statement is saying that since a famous person was a vandal, it's OK if everyone is a vandal. I would hope that we would try to be more respectful of public and private property, rather than use Pompeii of 2000 years ago as acceptable standard.

Mosquitos on Frances in May… June?

Any particular part of the Portuguese?

    Fire Safety in Albergues

Excellent advice. Once i was working late (8:30pm) in a high-rise office building when the fire alarm went off. I went out into the hallway to an exit stairway. I noticed that the stairway doors on each floor didn't allow access back into the hallway. I went all the way down to the ground...

    Family Camino Guidelines

We had set aside some days to spend in cities that we were interested in. In addition, we had some periodic rest days in our plan. As we walked, we decided to give up the rest days and walk shorter stages.

Experiences of ghosts, premonitions or presences?

Yes, almost the entire CF route.

    An alternative system for Albergues

The disconnect seems to be that most of the people on this forum view the Camino as a spiritual journey, internal as well as external, rather than an adventure or walk. Certainly, not all on the Camino have this perspective.
