I'm currently in Bayonne, leaving tomorrow. I'm staying at the Okku Hotel which I adore. What an experience. It's an easy 20 min walk from the station. Includes breakfast, all day snacks, wine, horsd'oeuvres. Sauna, terrace, etc. Really cool and comfy rooms.
It does sound like a lot, but it depends on how you have been training. If you've done similar distances with your pack in advance of your Camino, it shouldn't be as big an issue as if you haven't worked up to this level beforehand,
Best advice I ever got about waliking downhill is to take it HEEL first, not toe first. Saved my knees, legs, psyche, etc.! Best of luck to you on your Camino.
