6 weeks to go - Plantar fasciitis and achilles tendinitis

I had the same situation prior to one of my caminos. These support bandages were a game changer for my PF, learned about them from another pilgrim on this site: www.supportthefoot.com. Same idea as tape, but I think easier to use. Heel drops/raises (standing on a staircase) were also really...

    Ear pod recommendations

Yes, I use these too and absolutely love them!! Much more comfortable for sleeping than anything else I've tried.

Laura from Mansilla de las Mulas on the Olvidado

Laura is amazing! The night I stayed in Mancilla de las Mulas in 2016 she started an international sing-along in the courtyard after dinner that was one of the most memorable, magical nights of my Camino. First she and her mother sang for everyone in Spanish. Then she encouraged everyone else to...

    Plantar fasciitis

These support bandages were a game changer for my PF, learned about them from another pilgrim on this site: www.supportthefoot.com. Same idea as tape, but I think easier to use. Hope you feel better soon!

    Hiking Skirts

Bodyglide for her anti-chafing balm - works great even in the very hottest weather and they make a really small size that's perfect for backpacking. You can buy it at Target or REI. I love hiking in a skirt!

Starting a Camino with mild plantar fasciitis - crazy or not?

Just an update - I did walk part of the Le Puy route as planned and had a great trip. By the time I started my trip, I could tell the PF was starting to get better and it stayed pretty stable and manageable throughout the trip. It was finally gone about a month after I got home. I was doing so...

Learned a good lesson before starting Camino

Hi CaJohn - I was given the same advice several years ago about shortening my stride and it's been really effective for me. I was told to remember to "keep my feet below me" and that little mantra works really well for me when I catch myself overstriding.

    Pack Review

Just an FYI for anyone interested in buying a Gossamer Gear backpack - they don't normally discount their current lines, but on Black Friday every year they do run a 20% off sale on all backpacks - I had some nice savings when I bought my Gossamer Gear Gorilla pack. I've had mine for 3+ years...

Starting a Camino with mild plantar fasciitis - crazy or not?

This is very helpful - thank you Anna! I hope you have a wonderful (and painless) walk on the Via Francigena next month. Buen Camino!

Starting a Camino with mild plantar fasciitis - crazy or not?

That's a great suggestion Karin - thank you - and I'm so happy to hear you got some relief. My foot seems to be doing slightly better this week - I think switching into a stiffer soled shoe for now and increasing the amount of PT I'm doing on my own is finally starting to help. I also stopped...

Starting a Camino with mild plantar fasciitis - crazy or not?

How interesting Jackie - almost makes me wonder if the walking you and your mother did actually helped speed up your recovery. Thanks for sharing this, it's encouraging.

Thanks Sugargypsy - I've never heard of this treatment, I will look into it!

Starting a Camino with mild plantar fasciitis - crazy or not?

This is really helpful and encouraging, thanks Padre Eric! I've been hiking and running in lightweight Altra trail runners for a few years - worked great for me when I walked the Camino Frances - but I just switched over to a more supportive Merrill shoe at my podiatrist's advice - she said to...

Starting a Camino with mild plantar fasciitis - crazy or not?

Thanks Wendy, this is really encouraging and helpful. Glad to hear you were able to figure out something that worked! Amazing how sometimes one change makes a world of difference, isn't it?

Starting a Camino with mild plantar fasciitis - crazy or not?

Thanks Dave - this is a hugely helpful post you have written, for me and anyone else dealing with PF! In fact, I came across it before I posted and was happy to see it - totally consistent with what my podiatrist was telling me too.

Starting a Camino with mild plantar fasciitis - crazy or not?

Thanks Karin! My doctor did mention that as an option to consider if other methods don't work. It's helpful to hear from you that they do work. I hope your left foot starts feeling better soon!

Starting a Camino with mild plantar fasciitis - crazy or not?

I have plans to hike a portion of the Le Puy route (Le Puy to Conques) in a few weeks. Problem is, I suddenly developed a mild case of plantar fasciitis in one foot 3 months ago. I’ve tried so many things - resting it for a couple of months, stretches, new inserts, changing shoes, night boot...

    Question about Altras

Another vote for the Altras. I’m a woman but wear the men’s, I like the extra width. I did need to adjust to the zero drop, but it only took a couple of weeks. I wear them with a superfeet insole and love them, for both running and hiking. Walked the Camino Frances in Altras without getting a...
