My best tip is a slight tangent on this topic. You don’t have to follow the stages of the guidebooks! I think this is part of what leads to the bottleneck in accommodations. Get a bed in the town before the next big stop where “everyone” is heading or after, or even halfway there! Buen Camino
It really is individual! Best advice is to put variations to the test at home. Boots and socks killed me. I had blisters on blisters. I’d only consider them again if I was going in cold months. I endorse socks n sandals.
You can definitely go w sandals but I’d bring 2 pair. I saw some people without socks but with socks worked better for me. One pair of standard sandals and one pair with a closed toe, like a water sandal, for rougher terrain.
