Veering off topic slightly...but how good is the Vermont Country Store....like stepping back into a Norman Rockwell time warp.

A week between Cahors and SJPP - where would you choose?

I usually try and keep it at around the 25k mark per day.... 30+ in 30+ heat does not sound like fun! I'll be walking late May so weather should be OK. My French is pretty good so a nice chambre d'hote with a communal meal sounds perfect - thanks for the tip!

A week between Cahors and SJPP - where would you choose?

Thanks for the responses and good wishes – all great advice and much appreciated. Unless there’s some seriously unmissable bits between Cahors and Moissac, I’m leaning towards Moissac to Eauze or Condom. I’ve walked Figeac to Cahors previously. And my original plan was Le Puy to Conques – been...

A week between Cahors and SJPP - where would you choose?

Hi all I have a week next year for some walking in France, and somewhere between Cahors and SJPP looks best, given my overall itinerary. (I'll likely be leaving luggage on Bordeaux beforehand) Any recommendations on people's favourite sections? Or least favourite, come to that.

Is 6 mins enough time for train transfer at Saint Etienne to Le Puy?

I've done this trip a few times the other way (Le Puy -> St Etienne - > Lyon). Changeover has always been just a few minutes, with the Lyon-bound train on the other side of the platform. Never been a drama.

    Gite in Le Puy

Hi Another option (not a gite, but a good budget hotel) is the Dyke Hotel ( http://www.dykehotel.fr/). It's in the centre of town, close to the start of the route.

    Chemin de R.L. Stevenson

The bus terminal in Nimes as adjacent to the station. I can also recommend a hotel in Nimes if needed.

    Starting at Saint-Chely-d'Aubrac?

Hi all. I have about 6 days walking time in France later this year. I was looking at a section of the GR65 roughly from Saint-Chely-d'Aubrac (or thereabouts) to Figeac. My question is how do I get to Saint-Chely-d'Aubrac (or thereabouts) from Paris? I'd be getting the train to as close as...

    Chemin de R.L. Stevenson

I've done the southern half of the Chemin de Stevenson - from La Bastide to St Jean du Gard. This is probably the more strenuous section, but is not really all that difficult. Mt Lozere is the major climb, and is long and gradual rather than steep. Le Pont de Montvert to Florac is the longest...
