What to do different next time?

Good advice Robo, I met a number of people on my last Camino who had walked the same route multiple times. I don't know if it was a lack of imagination or fear of the unknown, either way, walking the Frances more than once, when there's many other way more interesting walks out there seems a...

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

I'm pretty sure (like 100%) that Britain is not now nor never has been part of the Schengen zone, happy to stand corrected but a quick interweb search will tell you it's not. Just last year I exhausted my 90 day allowance and headed to Scotland to walk the West Highland Way without any drama.

I knew that looked familiar :)

Hi Collette, I think most should still be open, perhaps check using their contact details, I think most are on the Gronze website. I know of a couple who walked in January, they were the only ones on the walk and had no trouble but had to advise in advance for the fires to be lit and power to be on.

Our encounter with dogs along the Invierno

This is meant to be a little light-hearted. There's always a bit of chatter about angry dogs along the Invierno, and while we passed many, all were behind fences, the only face to face encounter with a dog was this, heading into Chantada.

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

Hi Gumba, I'm from Adelaide so I understand the 90-day issue. It's possible to do but it would be a pretty big challenge. It's a long way and you'd have to do it over a couple of seasons which would mean either a winter or a summer, both not ideal times to walk. My walk was somewhat more...

Hi E Hi Ellann, Here's a list of the stages and hotels for you. All contacts etc can be found on Gronze.com I seem to remember. Cheers Ross --------------------------- Ponferrada - Las Médulas. Hotel Medulio Calle REAL, 1, 24442 Las Médulas Las Médulas - O Barco de Valdeorras Hotel Malecon...

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

Hi Hilary, it took about 3 months all up, but I had breaks in Le-Puy and St Jean.

Hi, I'm travelling today, but will post a list for you soon. Cheers

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

That's correct, at about the 6 or 7 k mark, just off the path and up near a main road, very good as well.

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

Hi Sarah, I did it in 11 days, the final few were pretty short, I was in no hurry and wanted to enjoy the experience. I did.. I think it could be done in 10 without any breaks and if you're happy to push along a bit. Have a good walk.

Yes, long and beautiful in parts, a very nice way to wrap it up. :)

    20/20. I can spot a walker.

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

There's just the one bar from Ponte Ulla to Santiago.. Empty save for a few locals.

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

Sounds implausible, walking into Santiago and not seeing anyone else on the road. Implausible but true. I followed the Via Gebennensis from Geneva to Le-Puy, then the Via Podiensis from Le-Puy to Saint Jean then the Camino Frances from Saint Jean to Ponferrada then the Camino Invierno into...

LIVE from the Camino Struggling with doubt on the Camino Frances

Sitting in Leon tonight on my first rest day and reading your post really resonates with me. At the risk of sounding a bit downhearted myself, I think you have plenty to worry about, and for good reason. It's not an easy undertaking this Camino walk, not just the physical, but the mental as...

Alternative finish to Camino Frances via Camino Invierno and Sanabres?

We're a few days off Leon now and looking forward to heading onto the Inverino soon after, the Frances has been something of a disappointment so far, there's the usual issue of overcrowding of course, but the major disappointment comes down to the fact that it's a pretty ordinary walk. Dull...

    luggage post-Invierno

One other option for you to consider might be to head on up to Ponferrada and use Manual the luggage transfer guy on that walk. He seems to charge 6 euros per bag per section, it might be a bit more expensive than storage but it would only be marginal. I can send you his WhatsApp contact if you...
