    Topo Wearers!

I have worn Topo Terraventures and Ultraventures on two Caminos, Rota Vicentina and the GR10 across the Pyrenees. I buy my normal size. The grip from the sole is great, even in the mountains.

    Bayonne/St. Jean travel question

I was on the train on Friday, from Bidarray to Bayonne, so it is currently running.

Who is walking on VdlP in 2020?

In the end we started in Cadiz to do the Via Augusta on 4th March. We did not see any other pilgrims in the six days we were walking. Weather was great, signage could be better but was not hopeless. We got increasingly worried about the situation as we went on, in the end we took the bus to...

From Sevilla with my partner around 8/9 March, we hope.

A swift return (and a Metro question)

We didn’t manage this-St James’s Anglican Church is only open Sunday and Thursday 10:00 to 13:00 and other times by arrangement. I phoned them but they had other commitments and could not welcome us on a Tuesday. Something for next time... The metro seems to work like this (or maybe we...

A swift return (and a Metro question)

Thanks for your help and suggestions. We would like to do the Variante Espiritual which is another reason to save a little time leaving Porto.

A swift return (and a Metro question)

I talked so much, to everybody, after my walk from Porto to Santiago in May that my brother decided to finish his Camino which he started over 20 years ago. He got to somewhere on the Camino del Norte before getting a trapped nerve in his back and having to go home. So, he is joining me next...

Why No Public WCs along the Caminos?!?

The Pacific Coast Trail and the Appalachian Trail do have some "pit toilets" maintained along the trail - though obviously few and far between.

Why No Public WCs along the Caminos?!?

The boardwalks in Portugal are impressive - a low tech solution which doubtless protects the dunes and coastal areas while providing access for beachgoers and pilgrims. Who provides them? Some are a bit dilapidated but others are maintained and this year I saw new sections being built. Could the...

Brail and Tactile Stamps for Visualy Impaired Pilgrims

Here is an embossed stamp I got this year in Seixas on the Camino Portugués. Someone had set up a table in their garage and were offering a drink and cookies to passing pilgrims. The stamp seems worn out, or possibly just struggles with the thick card of the credencial.

Once a Pilgrim, always a Pilgrim

This month I walked half of the Coast to Coast Path in Ireland. One night I stayed in Glenmalure in County Wicklow with Frank who runs a lodge for walkers and others. He had this fixed to the bridge outside his house and told me he had done the Camino Francés many years ago. Some days later I...

    Missing out

A hard of hearing Camino! Could be fun.

    Missing out

Thank you all for your kind words. I did indeed enjoy my Camino. Maybe there is some self-selection bias too, in that the more extrovert will write and blog about their experience while others may not, but enjoy it none the less? I do have hearing aids and I find they help a lot. As I was...

    Missing out

I'm not complaining, I really enjoyed my silent moving meditation. I am planning my next Camino!

    Missing out

I walked from Porto on the Senda Litoral in May and I thought I had had the most fantastic experience. Since coming home, inevitably feeling somewhat flat, I have read many other peoples accounts of their Caminos and I wonder what I missed. I did not talk to many people and did not share any...
