I posted this in the fall. I was at Santiago in September after finishing the Portuguese Way. I was up in the cloisters area to see them lighting the charcoal. As you see it is not lots of lbs. but a nice amount for the incense.
September 2021 I found the $29 flight via Iberia the easiest to do. (Trains we’re not running due to Covid) i took a taxi to the hostel/ hotel. I self checked in at midnight at Javier Cabrina . Next day I walked around the city and took the subway to the airport. Very convenient.
Walked the Frances with two other girlfriends in 1998, it was a great experience. But even with Covid, being 69 I set out to do the Portuguese and Fatima from Lisbon this past September alone. So glad I did it. I agree with everyone, do try it alone for you are never truely alone!
Buen Camino!
So glad I spent two nights in Tomar. The castle was wonderful. I walked from Lisbon to Santiago in September and did eliminate the two sections suggested. Also don't skip Porto with the walking tours and Port wine tour. Worth every penny is costs!
I happened to observe the lighting of the charcoal ( attached photo) up stairs in the cloister just by chance. It is about 25 times the amount I use at Mass as Sacristan when I light our Botafumerio.
I had the same problem. A really great option right in town …Went to Pilgrams Hostel

I just finished the Portuguese Way from Lisbon to Fatima to Porto, Coastal to Santiago on October 1. I hit 3 days of 98degrees weather. Too hot for this Maine gal. But also went to low 50’s at Santiago so bottom line is September is a great time . No rain only at nights. I did have problems with...
Just finished the Coastal from Lisbon, to Fatima and then to Santiago on October 1, I did all under $5- $20 euros Albergue and hostels. Only used my liner 2 times at public Albergues. Everyone seems to provide full sheets, towels and blankets due to Covid!
We asked at our hotel and got a guided bus for meal and tour for about 60Euros. A great cool down and incredibly wonderful trip. Try your place of stay or the Pilgrims’ center in Santiago.( sorry name escapes me)
My flight leaves Boston on Sun Aug 29. Most places do not run labs on weekends in Maine. But finally called my Drs office and they said one place does 24 hour turnaround for NAAT. It is an hour away but… So have a Friday appt within the 72 hrs. Also bought 2 test kits to take with me . Hope this...
