The booking ahead problem: Is it a problem?

I’ve walked only a single short Camino. Among my goals was to destress and to be present. That meant knowing in advance that I had a place ready for me to lay my head at night. I booked every night ahead. I’ll do the same if I’m fortunate to walk again. Buen camino a todos!

    Tattoo

Love La NASA! Recommended by locals at an Opi pedi-spot, so we saw their work before ever going. English speaking, 50€? I’d go back!

    Daily stamps

On the Sarria-Santiago walk, you’ll find enough places to stamp to fill your entire credencial, if you so choose. Churches are a nice place to stop, contemplate, and get a stamp and prayer card.

    Carry your backpack please.

Here we go again. Your Camino is not my Camino. Your burden is not mine. What about the mother who carries little more than grief after the death of her son? She carries a weight far heavier than anything you can fit into your pack. The Camino is for all, rich or poor, able or disabled, packing...

    Private rooms availability?

I walked this route last summer. Booked everything through Airbnb. And each place was better than the last! We walked May/June. I started reserving in December. Happy to recommend a few places!

    Luggage Transport - Why?

We did, and arranged pick up prior to leaving home. We wanted to get as many of our ducks in a row as we could!

The “new normal” isn’t necessarily bad

It wasn’t the point for me. I don’t think there’s a “one size fits all” point for anyone’s Camino. What I can say is that my Camino provided me with exactly what I needed at the time, and for that I’m very grateful.

The “new normal” isn’t necessarily bad

For myself, the anxiety of not knowing where I’d lay my head at night would have impacted my ability to enjoy my walk. Thankfully, there is no wrong way to do YOUR Camino!

    Luggage Transport - Why?

I hear that. At the same time, there’s a liberation in being unburdened as well. I carry a heavy load in my work life. To be free of concern over the weight of my belongings on the Camino was a huge gift to me. I met more than enough people—my work requires that I’m “on” most of the time, and my...

    Luggage Transport - Why?

I might add that my Camino wouldn’t have happened if I’d had to carry a pack. I’m simply not in that kind of condition, but I wanted—needed, even—the Camino experience. And isn’t that what it’s ultimately about? I sense superiority in some voices about how they accomplished their Camino. Please...

A hard landing upon returning home

Interesting. It was actually a server in a small bar, who was originally from Colombia, who told me that what he loved most about Spain was the relaxed pace of life!

    Bed bugs

    Hmm. Sure they weren’t headlice?

    Luggage Transport - Why?

Be aware that this is not the case with all transport services. We chose our accommodations first, then arranged transport. We did this independently, without use of a travel agency.

    Luggage Transport - Why?

Then there are those, like myself, for whom the Camino is part of a longer trip. In order to experience other places the way I wanted to, I needed more than would fit in a backpack for the Camino—additional footwear, a dress, and so forth. I have no regrets and was able to immerse myself in the...

A hard landing upon returning home

I am so grateful to know others are in the same boat. I’m home for 3+ weeks, and I still don’t feel at home, so to speak. I find I’m isolating frequently, not as socially engaged as I usually am. The idea of reintegration resonates with me. I’m content, and at peace, very much so. Just trying to...
