Would you stop at places that lack the Camino hospitality?

Buy something! if you are going to use the facilities in a cafe. Basic courtesy.

Safety for pre-dawn starts on the Camino Frances

I like soaking the hat. Did that on a different hike and it was effective and amusing
  3. WalkingJane

Has the Camino Frances become a victim of its own success?

I took the local train several times and enjoyed that kind of contact with local people. Way better than taxi when my 80+ body needed a bit of rest.

Finding Accommodation in SJPP without Communal Meals or Public Speaking

You are forgiven by a fellow "hypocrite".

    Warning: Jacotrans

    Oops. CTT is Portugal

    Warning: Jacotrans

I used Correos in Portugal. Jacotrans in spain. No problems with either; once my bag was sent to a nearby restaurant as there was no one in the albergue until 5ish in the afternoon. The restaurant were watching for me...

Are there taxis from Burguete to Colegiata de Santa María?

I used local train and/or bus a couple of times and enjoyed this way of learning more about the countryside and local people. May not serve if distance walked is your goal. I was 82 on Frances the first time, 85 the second so of course this way of going helped preserve my feet.

LIVE from the Camino Ethics Question -- to walk or not to walk?

What pops up for me is that even if/when we walk alongside someone else each of us really does walk our own Camino. We notice different things, or notice the same things differently. That is not a judgement; it's a simple fact. Part of the "together enjoyment" is talking about the day and...

    Alternative POV

Where are they from??? I did not feel "brave" living in NYC, just careful. Have traveled in Europe alone, Camino and not, lived in Lisbon and Braga, and never felt "brave".. Glad for adventure, for seeing new things, etc. Traveling with Habitat for Humanity, I heard "Jane, why don't...

    Alternative POV

Glad you have that sorted! I need time alone too. Grew up with 3 siblings, moving often, frequently to dwellings that we wished were larger. Plus - I learned to share and to "play well with others". Minus, it could be SO confining. The Camino was great for my alone though I sometimes liked...

Looking for accommodation recommendations in Leon

I stayed in "Como en Casa"; designated rooms in a hotel.

    Pyrenees in May

I was reminded that May 1 is a holiday in Europe by arriving in Bayonne that day and having an "interesting" time getting to SJPDP. You can probably get more solid information about just what will be closed/have a different schedule by checking online.

    Camino legs

Take it slow and easy. Short stages. Bus or train now and then. I am 88 now, walk every day in my neighborhood but not very far these days. Followed, and enjoyed, Camino Frances at 82, Portuguese at 85 by doing it "my way". I don't know of any prize for speed on the Caminos. It is...

Camino Frances in May or June - which would you prefer?

I walked beginning May 1 (which, by the way is a holiday in much of Europe). Chilly to begin with, warming as i went along. I, too, prefer warmth and would be inclined to start later another time.

    Nothing went right

    Thank you!

LIVE from the Camino Rappahannock reports in, from Camino Francés

The pharmacists are great! Allowed to go farther in "diagnosing and prescribing" than in the US

    Priest attacked?

It is true. There is a newspaper report on the post.

Camino Frances - Limited time, avoiding lots of roadside walking

I like these suggestions. Sometime there seems to be a trend of "having to" walk in some way or other. As if there were a Camino cop ready to strike when one "does it wrong". Since I was 82 when I began, and 85 when I went back after coming home for a family issue, I had to make some...
