Hi, can anyone confirm if the new route at Bar Julia is currently in place?
I start my Camino in 10 days and plan to stay at Meson Novo, splitting the stage at Bar Julia with Antonio collecting us.
Hi Neil,
Found your blog, right at the start when I was looking and really enjoyed it.
Doesn't seem to be many from Northern Ireland walking the Camino, never seen on the completed lists.
Sounds as if you really are hooked, its something that...
Hi,
The biggest lessons I learnt were to split day one, as we took too much out of ourselves walking from Ferrol to Pontedeume on first day last year.
This also meant we didn't get to spend anytime at the beach just before Pontedeume, which look great.
Also we will both be...
That's it, flights are booked as are the 2 nights stay in Meson Novo :D
Really looking forward to it, learnt a lot of lessons last year and will be better prepared this time round.
Time to start the training :)
We walked the Camino last year in 6 days with no training and to be honest day 1 almost ended our Camino (my blog is on this forum).
It is a very long stage from Ferrol to Pontedueme and we both suffered. The decision if we should carry on, on day 2 was touch and go.
We will be walking again...
We stayed in Bar Luis in Pontedeume and I can recommend.
It is central, reasonable, serve food and friendly owners.
Betanzos was stayed in the new alburgue. Cheap, clean and bright. Only downside is they don't provide blankets but can't fault it apart from that.
Bruma was Meson Vento, we...
I agree with Al make time to enjoy beach at Cabales.
We didn't last year but making a point of doing so this year by stopping at Neda on first day.
As Albertinho mentioned, I would also recommend staying at Meson do Vento and splitting that leg with Antonio picking you up at Bar Julio.
Our...
I would avoid Hostal Miras in Sigueiro and use the new albergue.
The food may be nice there, but accomadation and noise from outside meant we got very little sleep.
In fact we left at 5am that morning just to get out of the place.
We walked the route this year and plan to do it again in 2105.
The only change we would make is to split stage 1 from Ferrol to Pontedeume.
My suggestion would be:-
Ferrol to Neda
Neda to Pontedeume
Pontedeume to Betanzos
Betanzos to Bar Julia
Bar Julia to Meson do Vento
Meson do Vento to...
Are you all walkers or will have walking experience?
Ferrol to Pontedeume and Betanzos to Bruma would be tough enough for those with no training.
As we found out to our cost.
Wendy said to me last night she is missing the Camino and wants to go back. Which suprised me as was a tougher week for her then for me.
If we do return in 2015 we will be much better prepared physically and mentally and will be able to enjoy the experience more thats for sure.
Albertinho we are from Northern Ireland and we put this down when getting our Compestella.
Hopefully when they release the statistics we can finally see Northern Ireland listed on the countries :)
