Choosing Between Altra Olympus and Lone Peak for the Camino

Wow! Thanks so much for posting about your experience with the Altra Olympus! I'm even more excited about trying them out nowbecause they sound like exactly what I am looking for. I just remembered that REI lets you order a couple sizes online which I can have them deliver to my small-sized...

Choosing Between Altra Olympus and Lone Peak for the Camino

The new Lone Peak 6 has been released at $140 USD and is available on rei.com and elsewhere. The LP 5's are probably discounted to $96.93 by REI because of this. The 6's don't seem to have any very major changes, but there are reviews online if you want more info. I have the LP 5's in a men's...

    Lone Peak 5 (Wide)

Thanks for posting this info on the Lone Peak 6's! I have the LP 5's in a men's size wide, which is a godsend for my very wide feet, especially when I wear mid-weight cushioned socks and liner socks which work best for me when hiking. I wish they'd make the Olympus in wide widths too! But I'm...

    Lone Peak 5 - Sizing?

I agree! After two months wearing my New Balance Fresh Foam More Trail 4E's, I would say that they are almost as wide as my Altra Lone Peak wides, and the Fresh Foams provide a lot more cushioning than the Lone Peaks on pavement or rocks/cobblestones (though the Lone Peaks are good on dirt...

    Toe Needs your help

I sized up 1/2 size larger on my hiking boots, which seemed like a lot at the time. But it really wasn't. Then I read that one half size larger is only 4.23 mm or about 1/8 to 1/6 of an inch longer. One full size larger is only 8.46 mm or 1/3 inch longer, which isn't really all that much...

    Toe Needs your help

I definitely didn’t size up enough on those hiking boots that injured my toe. But by the time I bought the New Balance Traill runners I knew better.😊

    Toe Needs your help

That is always a possibility, and I can't speak for the OP Skydancer, but my pair of the New Balance Fresh Foam -- which is what OP has -- I bought with a full thumb's width of room between my toes and the end of the shoe. So at least for me, it is the firm material in the toe area of the Fresh...

    Toe Needs your help

Yes, that's another solution! I just purchased Bungapads All Gel Finger/Toe Caps from Amazon. They cover the entire toe. I haven't tried them out yet when walking, but they felt very comfortable when I tried them on at home.

    Toe Needs your help

Yes, that's also a possible solution. I have stuffed lambs wool in the toe area of my hiking boots, and it helps.

    Toe Needs your help

Hi Skydancer, I like the New Balance Fresh Foam very much too (I have the Trail v1) -- especially because of the large toe box and room to wiggle my toes. For me, my big toe is the one that is a little tender when I wear these shoes. In my case, it's a toe that was hitting against my hiking...

    What's Your Go-To CF Shoe?

David, in case you might be interested in revisiting the trail runner option, I too have very wide feet, and I have found two brands of trail runners that fit after trying on more pairs than I like to remember at this point LOL. One is that Altra Lone Peak 5's come in Wide here in the U.S., and...

    Lone Peak 5 - Sizing?

Hurray! This is great news. I absolutely love my Altra Lone Peak 5 wides, and I am so very grateful that these will be more WIDELY (pun intended) available! I read on the Topo website that they hope to expand their offering in the future to include wide widths. Double hurray!

    Lone Peak 5 - Sizing?

Yes, the Altra Lone Peak 10.5 wides are a bit barge-like. I feel a bit like I am wearing those oversized shoes Hobbits wear. 😀 But they are the only shoes I have found so far that will allow me to comfortably wear medium weight hiking socks with liner socks underneath to prevent blisters. I...

    Lone Peak 5 - Sizing?

I had no idea that HOKA’s came in an ultra wide, so thanks very much for posting this! I just returned my HOKA Speedgoat men’s size 10.5 “wides” because they were too narrow… which is the same complaint others had about them on the Zappos.com website reviews, a valuable source for unbiased...

    Lone Peak 5 - Sizing?

I have very wide feet, and I am currently switching off during training between Altra Lone Peak 5's in a Men's 10 1/2 wide, and the Hoka Speedgoats in a Men's 11 wide. The Hoka Speedgoat wides are a LOT more narrow than the Lone Peak wides even though they are a 1/2 size larger. In fact, when...
