    More Rest Day Questions!

Hi MichaelC, We planned our two rest days specifically to coincide with larger towns, markets, and stuff to do on the day off. Our first rest day was in Figeac, where we slept in, visited the large market, did laundry, visited the Champollion museum and had a nice supper...

    Pillow case

Some of the places will have "traversin" pillows and nothing else. These are cylindrical pillows, as long as the bed is wide. We couldn't figure out how to sleep with them, so I folded up my fleece and rested my head on that. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traversin

    Le Puy route

Yes, begin at Le Puy and walk to Conques in 10 days (we did it in 9). It is hilly, i.e. straight up and straight down, in some sections. But walking down into Conques was the best feeling, and staying at the abbeye in Conques was magical. A perfect ending to a 10 day trip. P.S. the food at...

LIVE from the Camino Le Puy to Santiago. Finally!

Love your energy! We were never without some sort of food in our packs, i.e. nuts and raisins, or baguette and cheese. France can be challenging for finding food. But so worth it, as you've already found out.

I've added some pics we took along the way to illustrate Kitsambler's description.

Booking and planning in advance for Le Puy

Getting food on Sunday/Monday and en route between towns can be quite challenging. Always have some sort of emergency food in your pack. We always had nut/raisin mix and it saved us a few times. If you're not taking the demi-pension and want a coffee from a bar and a croissant (or two!) from...

Building Le Puy itinerary. Thoughts and suggestions?

Hi Michael, We traveled in October and we were very glad that we had booked ahead as many places were closed for the season, both accommodation and restaurants/food shops. The spontaneity which you are looking for will be easier in June. I've attached our final travel document. Perhaps it will...

    Chanaleilles or Le Sauvage?

Definitely Le Sauvage. It was one of our magical nights. The food was all local and delicious (and made and served family style), and you are supporting a local farming cooperative by staying there.

    Help with tentative plan

Hi Katia, You have set 14 days from Le Puy to Conques which is good because it's very hilly through this stretch. We did it in 9 and it was very tough. We also took a rest day in Figeac and it was worth it. Susan and Rene.

Favourite accommodation Le Puy to Conques

We walked from Le-Puy-en-Velay to Conques in October 2015. We wanted to share some of our favourite accommodation. St Privat d'Allier: La Cabourne We had a double room with bathroom. Supper and breakfast. Clean and spacious room, gracious hosts, delicious food, and a cool hiking boot closet...

Gites between le puy and st jean

Hi Mark, October 2015, we walked Le Puy to Conques, to Figeac then the Rocamadour variant to Cahors, then went south towards Cordes-sur-Ciel. We were told repeatedly that we were one of the last through and many of the places were open only for us because we had made reservations long in...

Where to start the Le Puy?

Hi Julie, We wore Chaco hiking shoes which were super comfortable, but I did experience foot pain by the day's end. On the other hand, many of the women I spoke to experienced the same pain, but not the men. The trail from Le Puy to Conques is varied: forest trails, gravelly paths, pasture...

Where to start the Le Puy?

We walked in October 2015. Le Puy to Conques was my favourite section of the whole 500 km that we did. Le Puy is a great place to begin with the mass and a big town to get any last minute supplies. The Aubrac plateau was magical, and walking into Conques was like a dream. We blogged about it...

    Rocamadour variant

We just walked it this past October. We noticed that there are fewer services and rest stops along the way. Also way fewer pilgrims/hikers. We blogged about it here: http://renesusan2015.blogspot.ca/2015/10/oct-18-day-12-figeac-to-lacapelle.html Begin here and click through to get to all the...
