Some would hate the Baztan in Winter, some would hate walking in Winter...
I walked the Baztan (solo) in 2nd week of Jan this year, then again in April with a friend - loved them both, but different.
The Baztan is totally doable in Winter, as in any other route - as long as common sense is...
Apologies for late reply....I enjoyed both times.
In many ways I prefer walking alone. I do often end up doing trips where I walk with either good friends or family. I like both - they give me something different, and there are only certain family/friends I go walking with.
Walking with people...
Nope.... might have been a day before or after us? Unless he was the one that walked Urdax to Lantz in a day? The most we saw that followed the Baztan were 9 in a day, but met some other day walkers.
Hope Eli had a good time 🙂
There were no snow nor ice, the ground was thawed everywhere. We were lucky with the weather, mainly Sunny and dry - it started raining 15m after we sat down in Arre.
When I walked in January - there was some «black» ice on the road between San Blas and the Ermita, and the path between the...
Sooo - Baztan again, this time with a friend, and not continuing after. Slightly longer notes this time...
As there were 2 of us, and we did not continue after - we upped the budget. We were on a tight schedule due to RL commitments, and purists might get breathing problems.
Due to Easter - a...
Thank you for this:) The powers that be have conspired - so setting out on the Baztan again this Friday. Have an Old/Partly used credential as back up, but might try and get a new one - I like my «credentials» organised 😂
Unlike my January Baztan - I am now walking with a friend, different...
I was blessed in Arre - and it is cherished.
I do hope your temptation finds you walking... I took the nightbus from Paris to Bayonne, not the best sleep I have had, nor the worst. For 15€ with less than a week from booking - I was happy; it was dry and warm. If I remember correctly - you did...
From what I understand, the Baztan was part of the trading routes. Pilgrims would have followed/ joined the route as it was well known. It was a way of joining what we now know as the Camino Frances. There was safety in numbers. It crosses the Pyrennees at a lower altitiude, less perilous in...
ohhh - Nuala, it was you, and your notes that made me think the Baztan was a good idea 😀 You made me think that walking it solo was doable, and that it would still be doable in Winter; as long as you carry a warm sleeping bag, and that you have a back up plan if the weather is bad!
Thank you...
Baztan snaps - January 2019
As I am not sure how to add in original post... Still - posted in gratitude to those that walked before- and hoping it will show "you can" to those thinking "maybe". From an unfit, overweight- "I can do it!" pilgrim..
Go walking! Find joy in your own time - just do...
First - a big thank you to people that posted their trip reports, and to the person that suggested the Buen Camino app. I should write their names... I am chronically disorganised, lazy, do not make notes - as my day walking seem to disappear into «not thinking», so the following is written with...
