Hi, I walked the coastal litoral from Porto in October/November '21. The weather was great and I even got a swim in. Walked in shorts most of the time, and had only one rainy morning. That being said, I was prepared for storms and cold weather. There were a few other pilgrims around. I loved it.
Lol! That's laying the bar very low.
True about the albergue, although it was closed in november during covid times (as a lot were).
I just loved walking out to the ocean, and having a lovely coffee watching the waves come in.
Just to be clear, the central route out of Porto is the horrible one; do the coastal route instead. It has this lovely start at the cathedral and then down to the river. It feels such a natural way to leave the city too, just following the river out to the ocean and head north.
If you're walking the coastal, I'd suggest to start at the cathedral, go down to the river and then follow it out to sea and then northward bound on the coast. Lovely walk. And can also be an alternative start to the central variant.

This is a (private?) company that replaces the official ferry.
I used one of the "fisher"man that cross the river for 5 euros that hang out around the campsite.
I enjoyed VdC a lot, lovely centre (everything I needed to take care of my blister) and as said above lot's to see. I enjoyed the walk to the fort and the visit of the hospital ship museum.
(I haven't been to Caminha as I crossed to Spain from the campsite.)
Hi, I liked the coastal for that reason, long stretches in dunes, along the beach, few people around. I did enjoy it better after Esposende (as you are basically still on the outskirts of the greater Porto area). The boardwalk stays because it allows you to walk through very fragile coastal...
Hi, Great plans!
I walked the coastal/litoral/espiritual and I loved it. Especially all the views (the views!), the lovely towns and loads of history. The walk from Porto following the river to the atlantic was such a treat. Some sights (apart from the views :) ) along the way that I enjoyed...
Depending on the distances you want to do, you could easily follow the river east from Porto centre as described above, and continue north. I stayed in Villa Cha for the first night (there's a albergue there). Then onwards to Esposende. But there's accomodation in Labruge too. It's lovely here...
I took a bus which brought me smack bam in the middle of downtown.
Generally I use the public transport option on google maps to do point to point planning and that works quite well.
Hi all, ahh the weather!! I did this last year (CP with espiritual) from mid october into november and it was perfectly nice, one day of storm and rain which turned into a rest day to watch the spectacle. Rain gear and my down jacket were mostly at the bottom of my pack, and walked 90% in shorts...
HI,
If I understand correctly, you are talking about the official ferry. The one that has been out of service for a while now. Last year, the options were walking around to go over the bridge or, alternatively, use one of the fishermen from the campsite. And you are saying that from this year...
Hi,
I did the coastal litoral last year end of october, and it's was all good. it may be busier now but even then lots of places to stay and for 15e you had blankets, pillows and towels. luxury.
Vigo is interesting, yes certainly big and bustling and quite busy after those quiet camino days...
Hi,
I second the hospital ship in Viana, add a stroll around the fort too.
Baiona is nice too, another ship to visit, and another fort.
I skipped Caminha et A Guarda, the first because I got set over from the Orbitur campsite (5euro), at the other side I followed the river and coast again...
I know, I tried them all, but was apparently the only person there that day (early November). Paying for 8 when it was just me was not within my budget. It’ll stay on the to do list!
Hi, great plans. I did this combo end of october '21. Best app I used was Camino Ninja for hostels and hotels.
For the boat, as said before, it was very easy. I just rocked up to the campsite and within 5 minutes had found a guy who ferried me over for 5 euros. Easy as pie.
The boat for...
I've just finished the coastal 2 weeks ago and can recommend!
From Porto follow the river out to the ocean, and then follow the ocean north. wonderful walk.
I thought it was extremely well signed (also in Vigo), no problems at all.
Used the Camino Ninja app, maps.me and booking for everyday...
hi, the camino ninja and gronze apps show quite a few as closed (for instance in Labruge). i've booked the first three nights to keep daily distances reasonable. I'm setting off next week too.
