Christmas in Spain, slightly off topic

Having done several Caminos, this Christmas/New Year my wife and are planning to stay in a small Pueblo blanco called Comares, which is a mountain village 1 hours drive North East of Malaga. The main attraction is the mountain and hill walking which looks amazing. Anyway, my question is we...

Compostela, cammino di morte (Camino of Death)

My wife is in Santiago and mentioned in her blog yesterday http://www.scottishfootsteps.blogspot.com that an Italian pilgrim was killed in a hit and run this week. I've not heard anything about it.

    Weird weather in Europe

I got home to the UK from the Via de la Plata a month ago to be greeted by the wettest April on record after one of the driest Winters on record. Whilst in Spain the temperatures varied from (max) 12 C to 28 C but now I can't quite believe what I'm seeing. The temps in Sevilla are around the...

Which route is warmest in April

The Via de la Plata is one of the warmest which is why I keep returning to that part of Spain. The temperature in Sevilla today is 21C (70F) and quite sunny. I'll be there in 4 weeks and am looking forward to the first warm weather since last October when we had a mini heatwave here in the UK...

    Trail snacks

Chorizo and cheese for me too. But when food ran out I used this as emergency fuel when walking the Via de la Plata. It was greatly appreciated on some of those long hot days and, surprisingly, never caused any post-sugar slumps. Available in most Spanish supermarkets. Andrew.

    Lightweight guides

In my search for lightweight guides for a recent Camino I found a few things that fit the bill perfectly. The first 2 are from websites that have a variety of downloadable/printable media: http://www.caminoguide.net This has a user friendly written navigation guide and has info on the history...

Brrrr...anyone walking the Camino at the moment?

I've just seen the XC forecast for Burgos later this week and it's -10C min. at night and -3 max. during the day! Seems like most of Europe is shivering at the moment. Here in Salisbury it's +1 C and the first snow I've seen this winter is falling. Are there any live blogs currently? Andrew.

Medieval pilgrims - what do you think?

What would they have carried? Would their 'pack' weight have been lighter too? Andrew.

    Which GPS do you recommend?

I use a UK made Satmap 10 which meets your criteria though you may find it heavy and expensive at 222gms/ £250 - £300. I find it a faultless piece of kit and it has maps of the Camino @ 1:25000 scale, though this additional mapping will be expensive. Andrew.

Post Camino "refuge": Only eleven responses needed...

Good luck with this. I've filled in the survey. Andrew.

Rick Stein in Santiago and Galicia

Maybe Rick Stein could get together with Martin Sheen and we could have a really good film - The Way 2. I really enjoyed last night's programme. It had a lot of the 'flavour' of the Via de la Plata. Andrew.

How to transfer pictures from camera to blog?

Hi Laurie, I also have problems placing text and photos in blogger. So, I just write a block of text and insert the photos in a column below. Even then the photos sometimes move around and I often have to cut and paste the text when I've finished the post. You can also write an individual...

How to transfer pictures from camera to blog?

Hi Laurie, With the file upload folder open and showing your list of photos, in the top right hand porton of the window you'll see a tiny black triangle/arrow. When you hover the cursor over it it says 'more options' and when you click on it you're given the option of picture thumbnail size...

How to transfer pictures from camera to blog?

H Laurie, I just tried this on Blogger and it worked fine. On the new post page click the 'add image' icon then click on 'choose files'. On the left is a list of files. Under 'computer' is 'SD card' (my camera's card) and clicking this brings up the list of all photos on the card.Click on one...

    Wine: The Pilgrimage BIERZO

I bought a bottle from Tesco's yesterday after reading your post and, though I'm no expert, I would say it's not a bad wine at all. Thanks, Andrew.

    Cheapskate Camino

If you want cheap trekking gear Aldi are currently selling gaiters for less than £3 and lots of other trekking gear of reasonable quality. I bought a telescopic trekking pole for about £4 last year and it's been fine. I think they sell sleeping bags and ponchos too. Andrew.
