A few things stand out, but I will only mention two. First, the friendliness of not only our hosts, the Spanish people along the countryside, but I guess more importantly our fellow perigrinos. The Camino does draw people together, the magic of the Camino. Even the most reserved introvert "opens...
I did the Camino Frances in September 2017 from St Jean to Santiago and have/had plans for 2021 again. During that month I stayed at all the different types of albergues (private, municipal, religious/monasteries, donativos etc. including one night in a hotel room) to get the full experience. I...
Excellent video. Glad to see the Camino de Santiago listed as one of your favourites. Not sure if you've been on the Inca Trail or the Salkantay Trail in Peru, but those are great hikes as well. I have Everest Base Camp on my bucket list. Someday in the not too distant future, I will make it...
Yep. I do not know where on earth people got the notion that "everything south of Texas" is South America. Actually, America includes everything from Canada to Patagonia, Argentina. North America and South America are divided at the Panama and Colombia border. So when you refer to anything or...
From the small nation state Belize in Central America, so I guess that would qualify as North America. Interesting how you broke up Europe, much smaller than North America, into several areas. Just a thought :)
What a wonderful and well put together poem about our experience on the Camino de Santiago. Gratitude, a long forgotten virtue in what has become a "modern" fast paced "age of entitlement" where some people no longer want to earn their day's keep the "old fashioned way". Oh, what a breath of...
Feel free, good luck! I'll be sitting in one of your classes, if you don't mind. You won't see me, but I'll be very much there ;). By the way, these were all Sep. 2017. I was 63, my wife Gladys at 57 and our son John at 24yrs.
We are planning to do again for 2021 Holy Year.
No worries. You have earned and well deserved your compostela.
So what if you veered off path? Don't we all in life? We all veer off path from time to time; most probably recognize that. El Camino de Santiago is life. We are born, we live and we die. It is in living that we share what we've...
If music be the food of love, play on...
It's annoying, sadly, to read about complaints from a few people about any and everything on this forum; instead of building we seek to destroy. Why can't we just leave people alone. Respect even in disagreement. Why can't we live and let live. It's a...
My wife, son and I did SJPP/Santiago in 2017 for approx. 22 Euros per day each. That included all albergues, at least two meals and at least a beer or wine per day! Hope that helps.
I did my first and only Camino September 2017. I say first because at 64, I have every intention of making a few more before the sun goes down. I am from Belize and I get the bewildered look with the predictable follow up question: "where is Belize?" And the geography lesson starts. In 2017 my...
Stay new my friend. Life is short. My grandmother would always tell us as kids "youth is short, but adulthood is very long, enjoy your youth". Enjoy the walk, and buen Camino.
I try not to be judgmental, more so since my Camino of 2017. But yes, 4,000 Euros IMO is offensive no matter if that pilgrim was able and willing to afford it for 10 days. I did my Camino SJPdP/SDC (30 days) with less than 900 Euros (excluding air fare) at tremendous sacrifice coming from...
