Unfortunately, laying people off and expecting those remaining to do more seems to be all too common these days.
If I were between jobs this time of year, I would walk some of the southern Caminos, probably starting with the Via de la Plata.
I did a segway tour in Madrid a few years ago. They offer different tours, some in as little as an hour. You can see a lot more of the city than if you were trying to do it on foot in the same amount of time.
I would never actually walk a Camino barefoot or in minimalist footwear, but I have integrated it and other feet strengthening exercises into my training. Foot pain has not been an issue since!
I got the idea for this after reading Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest...
I did some day hikes on the AT this summer. My favorite was Mount Katahdin in Maine. Baxter Peak on the mountain is the northern end of the AT. The 10.4 mile (16.7km) trip up to the peak and back took me about 11 hours. Mount Katahdin is also the highest point in Maine at 5,269 feet (1,606 m)...
Was the Camino crowded at that time? I've heard that the August crowds don't start until the last 100K. I've only been there during late June and July, which I will probably go around then next time, but it would be nice to know if August is a possibility. I won't be doing the last 100K so that...

Spoiler Alert: I haven't watched the El Camino movie yet, but for you Breaking Bad fans, the character Todd can be seen driving a Chevrolet El Camino earlier in...
I'm no expert but it makes sense to me! Years of wearing shoes that restrict our foots natural movement would take its toll. I'm hoping a little pain making the transition now will payoff with less injuries in the future.
I've never had any major foot problems, except for wanting to cry when...
I was also going to try the xeroshoes, but there are no stores in my area that carry them. I just bought a pair of Altra trail runners instead, which seem to be a similar concept with the zero drop foot shape design.
Most of the stuff I have read about these minimalist shoes says you should...
Last July on a hot summer afternoon, some locals were grilling at the picnic area 3K after Viana. They offered us food and some ice cold San Miguels. That had to be one of the most refreshing beers I've ever had. I think beer and BBQ would be a welcome sight on the Meseta.
