Selfish? no way, just smart... if I ever am able to walk the Camino again(I refuse to get the jab), I will be more than willing to "travel to/from" the Camino with 1 or more people, but the walking part is much best being solo(ish). With the knowledge that we would most certainly be bumping...
You sparked a memory...
I had a strange pain in both feet for the last 3/4 of the Camino...
It was in the back area of both heels.
It didn't bother me during the day, just at night, got so bad that I had to put something under the lower legs to lift my feet (heels) from pressing on the bed...
Overall, We averaged about 13 miles per day between St jean pied de Port to Santiago.
But that was with taking Sundays off (only walking 4 to 8 Miles on Sundays)(Usually to make sure we made it to a place to go to Sunday Mass)

Wow a LOT OF replies!!! I'll (try to) make it short. I am also a devout Catholic. If it were me, I would go anyway, and just go again another time/year.
My first Camino was a year ago. Ended at Santiago near end of April. There was construction then too. Construction/repairs whether on...
My usual breakfast was a yogurt and an apple! Sometimes a boiled egg. ("Grocery store" eating). If I couldn't find my plastic spoon, I folded the foil lid into a makeshift spoon.
My translater showed it as "shake" the toothpick...
Maybe it's just saying to just relax after you get your meal (while you're cleaning your teeth with a toothpick)???
I broke the rule badly also, I weighed approx 180 lbs (82 k) when I left home March 13. Pack weighed 32 lbs. (15k) But it does contain a lot of "stones" with names on them. One big one and lots of smaller ones. Each one is a prayer. A sacrificial prayer. Some with names of people who I want to...
