It always puzzles me why pilgrims (and tourists) expect menus to be in languages other than the native (spoken) language. Where I live (an English speaking city with tourists from all over the world) menus are in English. I know that a fair amount of travellers speak some English (given the...
Like Rebekah said.. Amen brother!! I too found Cruz de Ferro to be anti climatic. Then some days later I came across a small stone shaped like a heart. I still have it. And I’m keeping it.
I'm so sorry you are experiencing this and hope by now that you are finding some relief. Don't hesitate to go to a hospital or medical centre if you think the bites are not under control. Your personal health comes first. Please let us know how you are doing. Best wishes
Agree very much
This young man is asking PILGRIMS to fill in a survey. I'm appalled by some responses. It sounds very much "let me tell you what I know." May his thesis committee treat him more kindly. You know, welcome him by saying "interesting topic, what got you interested in this, why...
FYI.. If you pursue the training programs ask about staying with a local attendee. When I took the program several locals took in out of towners (room and basic meals provided) in true Camino fashion. So those costs may not lbe a barrier.

Google Canadianhospitaleros@blogspot.com. If you go to the CCOP website after a bit of scrolling through all their links you will see a link Canadian Hospitaleros. It has contact info for Mary Virtue (Praisenr of CCOP I think) and Tom Friesen one of the...
Hi from a fellow Vancouverite. I’m currently on the Via de la Plata taking a siesta in Salamanca. Will finish on Tuesday and plan to walk the remainder in the future. I’m the only Canadian so far…at least in my small cohort of roughly 10 people walking the same stages. Most are French or Dutch...
I wouldn’t say it’s ‘king’.. I walked 2019 and used my credit/debit card more frequently than my previous walk in 2017. At least 80% of albergues and hostels accepted a card. I think the availability of internet has.allowed even small bars to accept cards .. tap and go. Of course you should...
Glad you posted this. I hike in the Canadian Rockies. This year there is a large increase in number of non-white ppl hiking. An unexpected impact of Covid? Thru conversation with some hikers I learned they would normally travel to another city for summer holidays, or on weekends go to movies...
In Canada and US, the acronym BIPOC is used. It is Black, Indigenous and People of Colour. The BIPOC community has dedicated websites with resources, information about their founders, etc., for their community. At Black Lives Matter rallies earlier this year many people of colour wore...
This is a great idea. Thank you Vacajoe. I agree with comment that Ivar should start separate page for house sitting. And count me in. I have a 2 bedroom apt in Vancouver (competition for Rick so he’s gonna have to raise the stakes). I will do 2 caminos in 2019, possible a short one (3 weeks)...
Some of my best Camino experiences revolve around communal cooking /communal meals.. walking into an albergue after 32 km and being invited by some younger walkers to share the meal they were cooking. I quickly ran to market and bought wine and tomatoes to add to the bounty. This was day 3 of...
