    Walking speed

3-4 km per hour for me, depending upon terrain. With that said, I figure if I play my cards right, I might be able to walk even slower. I love, love, love taking my time getting to Santiago. ;)

    FREE Travel Insurance

Hey Trevor, Mckenzie and will be in SJPdP a week from Friday - we will raise a glass of wine for you and your daughter. In the meantime, maybe she would want to join you on the Camino in the fall - father-daughter trip could be just the ticket. :)

What is the silliest thing you have encountered on Camino?

I wanted to have a picnic one afternoon, so I went to the store and bought some pan, cheese, and apples. A few hours later, sitting on the side of the path I opened my package of cheese only to find it was a block of butter. Going to Spain without any Spanish is pretty darn silly.

    Bed Bugs - permethrin

Is it just me, or did anyone else think that YouTube video of bedbugs on permethrin treated fabric was a tad bit horrifying? I mean I started to feel some compassion for the little buggers. Not that I'm going to rescue them. ;)

    Walking Speed

P.S. Despite the "dreaded descents" I loved every minute on the Camino and can't wait to go back next autumn. But I'll be taking the time until then learning how to walk downhill safely and without scaring myself to death.

    Walking Speed

Left SJPDP on Sept 20 and walked to Fisterre on Nov. 8. Two zero days. Many more nero days. Age: 58 Height: 5'6" Weight: over Backpack: 18lbs with food and water Speed: Glacial Note: Better going uphill, but the downhills (especially after Cruz de Ferro) were killers. I never learned the...

    Receiving Mail on Camino route

Thanks. My daughters are devastated - I can only assume they had take lots of time in preparing my send off packet (It's my first overseas travel without my children). They are hoping they can find it and redirect it to Pamplona before I get there.

    Receiving Mail on Camino route

Could someone tell me where I might be able to receive a package about 1 week into the Camino Frances (leaving from SJPdP). My daughters wanted to give me a send off package of goodies, but the box has not arrived and I leave tomorrow morning before sunrise. They are hoping to send the box to me...

    Camino Negatives

Weenie-waggers? One can only guess what you mean by that. :)

How much did you really train for the camino?

Thanks so much for this reminder! As a former open-water swimmer, I know what it's like to have to stop swimming because of over-training - I just never translated that concept to walking. My new mantra: slow down and smile. :)

How much did you really train for the camino?

I've been training since early May for 20-Sept start from SJPdP. I was walking 8 - 10 mile a day in town and weekends, I would head for the trails in the mountains. By the end of July I was hiking 15 miles at 6,000 feet mountain trails with my pack. Unfortunately, my hikes had to come to a...

    Instant answers/gratification

Oki doki - I'm a newbie (Leaving on my first camino (CF) on the 19- September). I've been reading about it and other pilgrimages and trekking advice for over 20 years, waiting for the time when I could go myself. In defense of those asking for advice, Google search and the forum search button...

    Gender differences walking the Caminos

Here you go, guys ... I know a few men who swear by these work/hiking kilts. New look on the Camino?

    Pimped my backpack :-)

Awesome! Wishing I could sew. I might try the time-tested, fix-all method I've employed for nearly every simple repair - superglue! Duct-tape is reserved for major repairs. ;)
