When you form an opinion - good or bad - it depends where you are coming from. When I worked in Singapore many years ago, I lived in an apartment provided by the university. An American colleague had his father to stay. He said "That's the worst shower I had in my life; the water just trickles...
That book is excellent! But... on the cover is a woman walking in jeans. That is a no no! Jeans are heavy and even heavier and slow to dry if they get wet.
The Camino has been part of my life for the past 10 years. I have just walked Burgos to Sarria. At 78, I think it will be my last one. I’ve always walked with one of John’s guides and left another at home so that my family can check my whereabouts. Thank you, John, for adding so much pleasure to...
I just want to say that I have never ever encountered boorish behaviour on the Camino. I’m in Cacabelos at the moment, and mostly stay in private accommodation. The big difference this year, compared to previous Caminos, are the very large groups of cyclists. I wish they would stay on the roads...
Update on my issue: BlogTouch is working, but loading photos very, very slowly. I’d like to keep using it if I can. Thanks, though, for alternative suggestions which I may try if I am desperate.
For several years I have been using BlogTouch with my iPhone to post my blog. Suddenly it refuses to load photos. In 3 weeks I will be walking the Camino Frances from Burgos and I really want to blog every day. Any suggestions?
If you want a good night's sleep, book a private room! Dorm rooms are for the young and fit and those walking long distances each day. Over 75's can take it easy and still get to Santiago.
Just to counter all the alarm, I have never been bitten on any of my caminos. I haven't even SEEN a bed bug! However, this year I did pick up a really bad case of toenail fungus...
Liam, I love this video. Great for practising my Spanish! I know you were joking, but the camino is full of retirees who are not too crook, including myself.
I am on the Camino now and it is quite busy! You cannot “stop when you feel tired” or you may find yourself without a bed in that town. For myself, I send my bag on with Jacotrans or its associates. So the bag must be downstairs by 8.00 am. That is also when I have breakfast. In the evening I...
I’ve been on the Camino around 8 times. I’ve never been bitten once. I am very, very susceptible to mosquitoes and sand flies (not that these show up on the Camino) but this just indicates something. Bed bugs are around, obviously, but don’t let them put you off!
I look for a card with no Overseas Transaction Fees. Two and a half years ago, on my last trip overseas, I paid over $250 in such fees. My current credit card (from Westpac, an Australian bank) charges $9 per month for a card with no OT fees. I'm looking forward to some savings at last on my...
