RIP John Brierley. Although we never met personally you were first introduced to me in Lourdes when a kind friend 'loaned' me his copy of Brierley's guide to the Camino Frances. I was due to walk later that year. Hooked, I soon purchased my own copy as I quickly appreciated its value to my...
Thanks for this wonderful post. I was still dreaming about doing my first Camino while you enjoyed yours. I was a little older to start but can relate so much with your experience. Your point about WiFi and few mobile phones brings a smile. I was "released" by my family to wander at 64 under...
I saw a recent post a few days ago asking if May was a good month for a Camino vacation. Seriously. It is all things to all people. I happen to believe that it is a pilgrimage route. And very often people on a Camino 'vacation' discover the pilgrimage and spiritual aspect regardless of...
I don't believe the Camino is an instant fix for people. We can't demand a response from it. If given time you may gain a perspective. Don't force it. Continue on your journey.... buen Camino
Can some people be so dumb? Who pays to keep the donativo open? Just think of the name- DONATION! I've seen this behavior and am totally amazed at the entitlement some people feel. Selfish and very sad.
Difficult but my I would buy the van. In a way that is my head ruling my heart. But I would like to havthe option to take small breaks for now. The Camino will still be there when this phase of your life changes. You only have one Mum.. Buen Camino
There is a Famine Way from Strokestown in Co Roscommon to the Custom House in Dublin. 165 km long, much of it along the Royal Canal. You can find out more by following this link -...
We never met. But you are aware that I like so many others hold great affection for you, your contributions to this forum, giving generously of your considerable knowledge and advice. Thank you. This pandemic has changed our lives so much. For those of us lucky enough to have walked the Camino I...
Also amazed by the numbers. Presumably most were Spanish pilgrims.
With the increasing numbers of Covid infections being reported, one wonders if the authorities will place further restrictions on the Camino?
I heard information from the Irish Medical authorities yesterday that 'young' people...
I made my decision back in March and will wait until 2021, to review. I don't want to be a burden on anyone or on the Spanish health service. I also like to have the freedom to stop where I decide on the day, when this is possible.
Wonderful Annie
I live each day with the overwhelming feeling of gratitude I felt at the Cruz de Ferro and again when I touched that metal mesh sign with the red letters spelling "Santiago de Compostela" when I arrived on the outskirts of the city. How blessed am I to have walked the Camino...
Well done guys. Super idea and great work. I always found it easy to carry my own trash (not a lot if its just your own) and deposit it in the bin in the next village/town.
