I carried my tent the entire Camino Frances to save the postage fees. I needed it for my adventures after that Camino. I’m on the Camino del Mar now. I have used it one night so far. One night since walking on June 2nd! :)
In cold, unheated albergues I didn't attempt to wash my clothes because they would never dry. I wasn't getting sweaty during the frigid walking so the "stink factor" was kept to a minimum. Many of these unheated albergues also did not have hot water, so I didn't even wash myself!
It was nice...
Hi Domigee!
Backpack transport is a wonderful service for many walkers who suffer physical difficulties. Or for pilgrims who carry a lot of heavy photography gear! :) I've never used the service, but if I suffered an injury I would utilize it to keep going, rather than end the Camino.
Even...
Perfect timing! I completed a university research study today and I am putting my study compensation towards the pin and a few other goodies in the Forum Shop.
I can't wait to show off my new pin on my new Camino! :)
Thanks Ivar! :)
I always try to at least wash my feet after a long day - and then air them out. My feet get really sweaty after all those Camino kilometres! :)
No one wants to have the itching, burning, painful feeling from a foot infection! It happened to me once - and NEVER again! :)
I have so many delicious memories!
One that stand out is enjoying an incredible tapas meal with Luis and Antonio from the Cuenca Camino Association. They invited myself and a fellow pilgrim for an evening of merriment followed by a starlit tour of old Cuenca!

I have the Montbell Travel umbrella. Yes, it is expensive, but I have been using it for over four years. The fabric is delicate so I can't use it in high winds. It weighs only 3oz. and is super tiny in my backpack. For sun coverage and more sturdy wind protection, I'll bring along my 6.8oz...
I always take an umbrella!
I use a big reflective model for sun protection on hot, exposed Caminos.
First photo taken on the Camino Mozarabe from Almeria in Jan 2020.
Or a lighter-weight model if only used for occasional countryside rain.
Second photo taken on the Vezelay Camino in Oct 2020.
Food: Stewed rooster combs
Why: It was a bowl of a dozen rooster combs. 🐓
Where on the Camino did you try it?: Hahaha I can't remember! I can picture the Albergue and the village in my mind but I forget where I was! It was in February 2018 - so on the Via de la Plata probably.
Does it have a...
As a thruhiker and a Camino addict..... both types of walking have their charms.
The biggest difference is that the Camino doesn't have the challenge of supporting yourself independently in the wilderness. The degree of safety, level of preparation, and past hiking experience required is much...
Doing my part as an essential healthcare worker until we get COVID-19 under control!
I accepted clinical administrative positions at my local hospital and at a university medical centre.
I was sad to leave France in November 2020 due to the lockdown.
When I return to Europe this is my planned adventure:
1) Complete the second half of the 'Vezelay Camino' (Saint-Astier to SJPDP)
2) SJPDP to Burgos on the 'Camino Frances'
3) Burgos to Bilbao on the 'Camino Del Valle de Mena"
4)...
Insect stories? Oooh I have lots!
Here is one:
While living in rural Vietnam my bed housed dozens of cockroaches. I tucked the mosquito net in tight underneath the bamboo mat (no mattress on the hard wooden frame) to create a "safe space". If I had to pee in the night I shone my flashlight...
It is my experience that there is a higher concentration of bedbugs in the most popular bunks.
The most popular bunk in the dorm is usually a lower bed, against the wall, furthest from the entrance.
The least popular bunk is an upper bunk, away from the walls, close to the entrance or in the...
