    Microwave Tortilla Maker

Trecile, Sorry, I didn't see your ingredients, tho Amazon explained a lot about the use of the intriguing micro-container. I'm tempted, so please could you pm me perhaps, or redirect me to your post again? Gracias, and my love to you all in Oregon north and south (Ashland of my Shakespearean...

Conversion to Euros on the route to Camino Frances

My own experience, within the EU, is that IF I put my credit card account well into credit (that's the rub!) before I leave, it has a lower transaction fee at ATMs than if I were to use my bank debit card (and my bank has so advised me). Because almost all my Camino expenses are cash-based (I...

My passport number is judged as being invalid

Hi, Lydia With the caveat that I don't think I'm very knowledgeable. Have you an Irish passport book, or passport card? I've had some complications (mostly with airlines!), with my card. Perhaps you might book your bus with the Movelia website. I've used them in the past and I don't think...

    Swans on the Camino(s)

It seems to be the time of year for 'miscellaneous' threads, so I'll add another--swans, NOT snakes! My son, a swan addict with a mild intellectual disability, surprisingly suggested that he will walk a few days on the Camino Francés with me this coming spring. We'll fly to Bilbao, and walk...

    I need a laugh.

I don't know if you'll be able to zoom the attached photo sufficiently to enjoy it--but the English translation on this sign of rules and regulations at the Albergue Turístico in Atapuerca highly amused me when I stayed there in 2006. The dangers of Google-translation? Can anyone tell me if the...

What to call it - El Camino or The Way?

I think people in the US often say 'I was on camino'--without the the. That somehow grates with me. Contrarily, in the US one goes 'to the hospital', and in Ireland one goes 'to hospital'. Specific/generic ... or just the quirks of language usage?

Hiking Poles hand luggage in Planes ?

Thanks, Laurie. You would be using T4 for United, wouldn't you? I think I'm looking for European-flight users departing from T1 (or others?) who I'[m guessing would have different airport security lines. Long-haul security--more or less grumpy? Question for a sociology PhD thesis, maybe? Mary

Hiking Poles hand luggage in Planes ?

I hesitate to open up this thorny subject again, but I will be on a flight from Madrid to Dublin (Ryanair) in March (whew, one day ahead of a scheduled strike day, unless the AENA situation gets nastier by then). Can someone with recent experience advise me whether Barajas airport security...

5 days with an 80 year old

Hi Chuckie, I agree with the others--the question really isn't about age, but about a fair level of fitness. My 80 year old friend is going to join me for several days in March too--I'm only 74, but she's apt to wear me out! You haven't mentioned where you will be travelling from. Access...

    Villafranca Manifesto: Camino Future?

I commend the Villafranca Manifesto, and it's good that action is being considered--albeit with much debate from the varying interests. I was much relieved, however, that recidivists like me (and many others here) weren't mentioned--we are, after all, responsible for a good percentage of the...

Hiking Poles hand luggage in Planes ?

The conundrum of carrying hiking poles on flights continues. I smugly thought I had it sussed for European flights, but in April the security people at Santiago airport were not one bit impressed with my letter quoting EU regulations permitting the poles in cabin baggage (we had backpacks with...

    Tapas

I second Margaret's recommendation of that truckstop on the left side of the road in Villadangos/Urbanizacíon Camino de Santiago. It's named Avenida II, I think. On my second CF I took the alternative route and enjoyed an in-house lovely paella, and breakfast too, in the first private albergue...

Food - photos from the Camino

Food only? Here's my well-earned liquid refreshment on arrival at O Cebreiro? As Sydney Mike has asserted on another forum, pilgrims have to keep their ankles hydrated! (I'm not sure I know how to attach a photo--here's hoping.)

When a total stranger makes your camino special

Apologies, I didn't read properly at all, not realising the girl hadn't got a pilgrim passport to show at the Oficina--I thought it was about her rationale for walking. And they didn't stay in albergues, so. Sorry for putting my big boots in wrongly!

When a total stranger makes your camino special

That was an innovative Irish solution to an Irish problem, and I'm delighted the girls were happy. But it raises a little question with me: why is the compostela so important to people who have walked the Camino(s)? I have been very glad to hear about the new certificate available to people who...

    Sending boxes of supplies

Dear Ellen, I think Laurie's advice is sound. You could have difficulty with sealed boxes in your flight luggage (even in a checked bag) from the US, although the Spanish post offices wouldn't mind. And as I mentioned before, I'm not sure if the post offices would keep a box as long as 30...

    Sending boxes of supplies

Dear Ellen, You've got the basic information, and cautions above. I also sent small boxes ahead on my first two caminos--trail foods, vitamin, reading matter and copies of maps. You can indeed post from Barajas/Madrid (There are Correos/POs in Terminals 1 and 4--see them on the online map of...

    Modern communications.

Welcome back, Wayfarer. Sorry you were incomunicado with the repeated storms--hope you haven't had flood damage as well. We were far luckier on the East coast (and on a hill!). Arguments, and all fact-finding queries, last so much longer without Google, don't they--and you couldn't even 'ask...
