    The Idea of Camino

The potency is slow acting and increases after you finish and get home. So the thought of giving up during the journey, for that reason, is likely to be a premature act.

The Way: how do you feel about THE movie?

On a very small sample, I note #3 has no votes. I wonder what else I might understand about people on this Forum and their biases, or other ... , that influences their advice or comments here.

How often do you take a break?

Which is as often as possible after I finish walking for the day, so it can be quite a long lunch

    Humorous post Camino post😊

I am now wondering if anyone's normal life at home is "somewhat" like that.

how to download routes from Gronze

Thanks David for correcting my ignorance on this specifc topic. There is however a difficulty because that source only has the kml (technically not GPX ;)) for each stage of the Camino I will be walking. For my purposes I will be downloading all of them, joining them together for this year's...

how to download routes from Gronze

If you find one let me know  but I am confident none exist. The idea of an Official Office doing this has not yet arrived. ¿¿¿ There must be some offices spending Madrid's money managing route maintenance and route changes on the popular routes so they could be asked to also provide...

    Intermittent fasting on the Camino

My take on food, having recently walked from Almeria to Ourense. A walk of some distance covering a range of physical and weather environments, and also differing "cultures" of bars and food which adds to the uncertainty of what is ahead. At home I usually have my take on intermittent fasting...

    Intermittent fasting on the Camino

This does not seem to have any resemblance to any of the usual estimates of energy used by any mode of walking - the numbers I am familiar with are about 300 give or take for basic walking, and a modest extra for the usual undulations on most of the Caminos with a backpack.

    Apps for Albergues

@wisepilgrim and @Buencamino2 Can the respective creators of these apps advise if they are about to include the Caminho da Geira e dos Arrieiros? I appreciate the Torres will always remain a DIY route and I will stumble along this as best I can.

    Early morning coffee

    1. You could chill a bit and discover about coffee and other issues as you walk. Expecting it to be like home seems somewhat unusual to my mind. 2. I have found just getting up and walking for an hour or so (you are unlikely to die) and then finding a coffee works for many people. It could...

141 million euro "master plan" to develop the Caminos for the 2027 Holy Year

A few thousand euros to clean up 100 metres of the Rio Nacimiento upstream of Alboloduy would be a great investment. There are no doubt many many other micro projects like this, as well as the obvious need for basic albergues at many places on the quiet casinos, etc etc. But perhaps that photo...

"The profile of pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago: 90% are Catholics, 48% do so for spiritual reasons"

Indeed! - but on the crowded Frances (with a certain diversity of people walking) my impression that many do not even pretend to be pilgrims of any type and are not wanting magic or mystery. It also takes time to infuse whatever this magic is for each of us.

"The profile of pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago: 90% are Catholics, 48% do so for spiritual reasons"

So we have 400,000 + getting Compostellas. Many doing the 100 km or so for the Catholic purpose. An earlier post had about 40,000 doing the full Frances and lesser numbers would walk the other longer routes It appears many of the people on this forum do longer Caminos and have some sense of...

    Paying for albergues via Whatsapp?

Do you use it instead of a Travel Card or Debit card for daily use on a Camino or anywhere? Obviously you trust it.

    Cell Phone Usage

Perhaps don't overdo it - many of the people answering your questions did their first Camino after almost no questions and fewer answers, and had a good experience. Start with the usual basics of travelling, such and cell/mobile phones, money, a brief introduction to the route & albergues, and...

    Cell Phone Usage

It just seems to me that this question has been asked many times and the replies to all the those previous questions all seem the same. It might help if this topic was highlighted in some place on the forum where new members can find relevant answers and information, and then if there is a...

Collecting a list of cash-machine / bank ATM fees in Spain

Are you able to share your contactless (international) fee, assuming you are using a UK card? PS during our world record lockdown in Victoria (Aus) we used contactless for everything with all shops tolerating even $1 or 2 purchases contactless - for many it remains cash-free.

    Australians phone question

A dual SIM - physical SIM for the Aus number, and - eSIM for Spain for data for WhatsApp etc, is a good option. Purchase eSIM before you leave home.

Collecting a list of cash-machine / bank ATM fees in Spain

Thanks for all the effort - the collective benefit 'to those interested' will be substantial. This information may be useful for some and those will not be at all concerned. I have no idea about a Schwab card and maybe it is a US thing and maybe has big annual fees or other, but for the rest...

How do you "relieve yourself" when a toilet is not available?

Carry a large sunhat, and if potentially embarrassed cover your face so no one will recognise you. Otherwise the Meseta is a large uninhabited place.
