I walked OC to SDC from Oct 22 until Oct 26. Rained every day. On the 26th the forecast was for 54mm and I think we got it 😂. It was elemental and we took the view that it was Galicia at its raw Celtic best. There were places that were slippery and places where the water came over the boots, but...
I read somewhere that non waterproof shoes at least allow the water back out 😁. If Galicia comes for you, you’re going to get wet, down to your bones. But you know, it’s not that bad. Go for what feels right.😁
My advice would be…
1. Yes, it’s autumn, but you can (with a torch) get off early. It makes you feels so much better to be on the go as the sun rises.
2. You are going to get wet. (Like you do every day in the shower). It’s not the end of the world. Keep smiling, keep laughing. This is the real...
Maybe too late - but...it's only water. The wonderful scenery that you have enjoyed is a consequence of the rain. Embrace it! (Or go for a cup of hot chocolate ☕️)
@ratyoke Hey there. Sounds like you are having a tough time. Sorry to hear that. You got up and got yourself out there - that is already a great achievement. Perhaps ease off the pace? Have a rest day? I don't know your circumstances - but you have my respect and admiration. I hope you do what...
Got to get me one of those...look for a 270lb man in a white linen trekking suit on the Camino in October. I might add a parasol. (If there is more than one, I'll be the one with the Burger ;) )
Absolutely! I am no tech-phobe, but for me it has made a huge difference. Of course, I respect the right of others to use their time as they wish, however I do suspect that some (not all) may be missing some opportunities by wrapping themselves in an electronic comfort blanket. Each to their own...
I can't speak for other people - but I can for myself. I have recently bought a 'dumb' phone. One that makes calls and handles text messages. I found that I was addicted to my smart devices. Rather than enjoying the view for example - I was busy 'checking in' my wife and I to wherever it was...
Very wise words in my opinion.
I have not walked the Camino yet - and while the Compostela or Certificado will be a nice reminder, I am hoping that the real benefits will be internal.
Good advice I think. I am promising to take photos (on an old fashioned thing called a camera) and to have a phone from which I may send the odd text. Otherwise, loved ones will need to wait for my return for updates.
For me stopping and starting over a number of stages would be far more difficult but I am sure that it is a highly personal thing and others would have very different experiences. I think the only way you will know for yourself is when you are on the camino - I hope you find joy in it when you...
