I am not a "Camino pilgrim"

For some of might even be the other way around. I started my first Camino in 2011 in hope of finding something spiritual and deep. I ended up discovering that HIKING is what I really love and what fulfills me. Being in nature, feeling the power of the weather in the mountains and fitting...

    Food Poisoning

You people talk about Spain like a highly risky third world country. Don't eat salad or sandwiches, no eggs? That seems to be quite exaggerated. Perhaps you could let go of these unusual precautions if you would realize it's a normal country, just like where you come from.

    Camino exploitation big business ?

Just wondering how you know who's a pilgrim and who's a tourist? Ive been in the cathedral both in hiking boots as well as in a nice dress, with washed hair and a camera around my neck. Who's to decide if I'm more legitimate than some other person just by my looks?

    One Weird Thought - Radicalized

Your definition of "self radicalization" even fits a lot of hobbies, personal interests, educations and professions. It's the human nature to strive for an achievement. Your comparison doesn't go very far and it's odd to think that you feel as obsessed as a terrorist. Hope you don't feel the...

WHY would you do a winter camino?

Some people simply enjoy winter. I like it cold, it's cozy to wear thick clothes and to look forward to a warm evening in front of a fireplace. I love snow and ice, it's magic and mesmerizing. Winter is a time of silence to be outdoors, not so many tourists, no stress.

I'll answer you later, I'm out for a hike just now!

Strange findings in Portugal and Galizia

I attached a picture of some of my favorite books around the topic. You should be able to purchase all of these in a well sorted bookshop in Santiago. I do especially recommend the Mitoloxía de Galiza which really features all myths and creatures sorted by alphabetical order. Very fun to read...

Strange findings in Portugal and Galizia

For all of you interested in pagan mythology connected to Christianity and the Camino de Santiago, I recommend to read about Raíña Lupa! Super interesting stories! For classic hero mythology have a look at Breogán.

Strange findings in Portugal and Galizia

It's spelled tripeiro by the way. If anyone is interested in Galician mythology, feel free to ask me for books about it. I recently finished my master's degree at the University of Porto about the topic.

Strange findings in Portugal and Galizia

Macumba is a Brazilian- African tradition though. Some immigrants will probably do it, but it's not very wide spread. Traditional Galician beliefs, myths and rituals are different though. They are a mixture from old pagan roots that survived the imposed catholicity over hundreds of years...

    Common Sense is no longer

...what about back in the days when power was hereditary and you could buy persons as slaves? Back in the days when beheading someone was a way of punishment? Back in the days when only men where people and women were possessions? I really like modern common sense.

Injury - What to do when you can't train....

To each their own, but if your wife is in severe pain from walking with the additional weight of a liter of water, then it seems common sense to not force it. In my opinion an injury or some pain shouldn't be a reason to not exercise - but if pain is that severe, even after plenty of...

What would your sello / carimbo be like?

...My first idea is that I would use my Ex-libris stamp, that I otherwise use to mark my books. It's a tree with a book on the bottom of it's roots.

    Spicy Foods?

If a meal in a Portuguese restaurant has "piri-piri" added, it's for you. There's a lot of grill restaurants that have piri-piri sauce for chicken (frango do churrasco) and ribs (costelinhas). Sooo good with a cold beer!

traveling with a donkey in France

Personally, I just don't see myself with a donkey having dinner at a nice downtown restaurant, standing in line at the supermarket or checking in a small guesthouse ;) I'd rather consider bringing my cat.

traveling with a donkey in France

Dragging a huge, stubborn, hungry animal behind you seems unreasonably much harder than carrying a light backpack.

Another pilgrim killed by a car

There is a wide sidewalk and parking on both sides of the road. It must have happened when he crossed.
