Hi, I walked both my camino's in october-november.
The Mozarabe from Granada to Cordoba and two years ago the Portugues from Porto to Santiago.
The first one was cold and lonely, the second one warm (20degrees) and sunny, with enough others to meet up regularly. I'm going to walk the dry stone...
Well, if I could pay my bills with cash, cash could be useful. But 90% of all bills (and all payroll) goes through the bank. So if everyone starts to pay me in cash, I have to deposit all that and pay hefty fees on it, it just suddenly isn’t that attractive anymore. Sure a small amount of cash...
For many online payments (even booking and some airlines) I don’t need a credit card here in CH, I can either pay with my debit card or use a system called TWINT (that I believe is unique to CH). I basically only have a cc for international travel.
There seems to be a bit of a difference between European (mainland?) users and overseas? Maybe a difference in banking systems? I hardly ever carry more than 20-50 euro in cash. Maybe 100 if I know accomodation needs to be paid in cash. I pay contactless with my debit card wherever I can. I do...
Germany is one of the founding members of both the EU and the euro. Still don't get it.
But yes, the individual countries that are in Europe and/or euro all have their own central banks and banking systems. With a Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card you should be fine all over Europe. You...
Germany is very much in the eurozone. Or maybe I misunderstand what your saying? In general, if you pay a small amount with a big note it drains the cash drawer of a till. And contrary to some memes on internet, cash is not free. I prefer people paying small amounts by card, over having to empty...
Once the train is moving, I can go on for hours, and I often do, happily plodding along. Untill something entices me to stop, a café, an interesting looking place/museum, the daily menu, whatever. Unless weather needs biding, I surrender to whatever the day brings. It's what I love about...
I love that @David Tallan, hold the plans in an open palm instead of a clenched fist.
From the reponses above, I get the sense that winging it, is more for a second of third time (when you have a better idea of your favourite places to revisit); than for a first time when you can't rely on...
Please remember that while a lot of national holidays are linked to a specific date, this is not the case for the whole Good Friday to Pentecote weekends.
Easter is calculated as the first sunday after the full moon on or after the spring equinox. Some years they fall earlier or later. In 2024...
Apart from the fiestas there are a few national holidays. But these are more national than European. And apart from shops being closed they are less of a big thing than the spring long weekends where the whole of Europe is off at the same time and thus more likely to travel.
In France: All...
Hi,
Just to remind some overseas people that in most countries in Europe we have quite a few holidays in spring (april/may) and that two are still coming up:
The first is the ascension weekend from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21 May
And the Pentecote (sorry only know the name in French) from...

I think the best way to get the deets on this is to contact them. On a quick glance there's nothing on their site. Best not to add to rumors and go to the source.
Hi all,
One of my favorite travel programmes on French TV is Les Echappées Belles. I just found the episode on the Chemin de Compostelle and it's lovely. It's in French but I think they have subtitles, and at the very least it will give you an opportunity to (re)visit.
Well people who have a metal bottle are more inclined to re-use it than single use plastic bottles. And the problem with plastic is that once it's there, it's there. It's still not very recyclable, and thus creates an unnecessary waste. And we have already enough waste on this earth that we...
Also I think the point about daily maximums may need repeating. If you can't get the required amount try to go down to something well within the limit, the machine won't tell you that you have exceeded the limit but will just give you back your card.
